Proper gun feedback

(Eudolus) #1

I had to register to ask this.

http://www.gametrailers.com/video/pax-10-brink/705431#comments_top

on this video at 1:08 you will notice that the player has 1, count it, 1 bullet in his magazine left, though when he fires, there is a sound effect of 3 bullets and even the gun recoils as if firing 3…last i checked 3=/=1

Am i the only one to notice this? i havent seen a single other mention this at all and its bothersome to me.

When i fire a weapon i want to feel like i fired a real weapon, now, what if he only shot 1 bullet? instead of holding down the trigger? would that one bullet expire from his mag and only fire off one bullet? or is this game encouraging spraying by actually having more bullets when you hold down the trigger?

Or am i missing something entirely, perhaps this gun had 33 bullets but they havent updated the capacity count on the hud…i dont get it…

So from seeing that im fearful that we arent going to get any proper feedback form the weapons in the game, or am i just paranoid?

lazy coding or in-game feature?

Neither, these videos are meant to show the rudimentary mechanics of the game, the rest is still down to tweaking and balancing.

(Eudolus) #3

i hope your right, i was already let down by BC2 with the weapon feedback, didnt even feel like i was firing a weapon, more like a water gun with a counter on it.

(tokamak) #4

Well Battlefield is known for it’s crappy guns since the very first 1942 game.

(LyndonL) #5

Actually I did notice this also and kinda shrugged it off (my mind’s been on other things lately).

It would be good to hear from a dev though to mention if this is just a side-effect of the alpha build.

Oh, insane gun nerds join the fray I see.

Wake up man, it`s a game about big tattoed men with long faces on island wearing beards and screaming in weird accents while vaulting tables, a game where every sane player turns half a hud off before launching the first level, nobody cares about silly gun animations!

(tokamak) #7

Well there’s nothing wrong with a slight sense of authenticity, doesn’t seem much asked either.

(BioSnark) #8

insane gun nerds would ask if there’s a bullet in the gun barrel not counted in the mag counter. I’d love to see splash damage up their gun game. The feel of the guns in et:qw and w:et was not impressive.

What? even small things like gun animations make a difference things like when firing the gun it doesnt feel fluid when you fire, or when u fire it doesnt sound good.

Idc about realistic guns or animation, as long as it feels good when I fire my shotgun! or load up a fool with my smg!

I normally play cg_drawgun 0 but an accurate animation would make it easier to count rounds for those who do so

I Guess you are american? “cmon dad, its not like when I was 12 and shot my first raindeer with the M4 you offered me last christmas”

I kinda hate Battlefield games, but 42 was, and still is, a freaking great game man, learn to pilot a spitfire first

<3 / peace, whatever

Speak for yourself man. I like the gun animations and the immersion of it all.
Perhaps you’re the insane FPS nerd who needs a clean screen to focus.

I am capable of multitasking to the point where I can play a game even with “the massive distractions of the gun animations and the HUD”, and as such prefer it.

lmao

must be Canadian, if he was an American that reindeer (caribou) would have gone down when he was 4

(LyndonL) #14

Don’t they still use Blunderbuss’ in Canadia?

(Seyu) #15

In a game where you’re gonna spend most of the time shooting at people, the gunplay should be on the priorities list. Yea, its a minor issue but it could be a major annoyance after you see it happen for the umpteenth time.

Oh the planes are great, especially having a friend piloting or in the backseat. It’s just that the rifles felt and sounded like shooting with staplers.

(Auzner) #17

Second that! I went back and observed the same thing.

Seconding that too; I turn those off when I get used to the game.

That’s what came to my mind but that would only mean two shots and there were clearly 3.

Watching it over and over at slow speed:
His first discharge period the counter goes from 30 to 19, or 11 rounds emptied from the mag. From the sound of it I think actually count 14 shots. The video has poor compression (3Mbps) and the audio is only 128kbps. So when playing at slow speed the blocky frames and compressed audio become really apparent. Other players’ weapons sound similar so I could be miscounting the sound. The recoils can’t be counted since the frame rate of the video isn’t high enough.

The alternative reasons we can’t predict:

  1. It’s a 3-burst fire weapon that hasn’t been perfected yet in the game.
  2. He’s playing soldier so maybe he has an unidentified skill that provides more shots and they haven’t reflected that to the magazine count yet.
  3. The weapon really has more than 30 rounds available and they’re not tracking properly.

A bug that has since been fixed.

(Crytiqal) #19

How can you release a beta when you keep fixing all the bugs? :frowning:

Damn yous :stuck_out_tongue:

(SebaSOFT) #20

They are using testing int the Expos and gathering feedback. Is some sort of “controlled” public beta
