Prone

Dolphin diving and burpees shouldn’t be a thing! Getting down and back up again should take considerable time so that players really need to make a concious decision to do it and won’t be able to get away with the wrong use.

I can’t think of any place in a DB map where prone would be useful… maybe if I was trolling or pretending to be a welcome mat.

(tokamak) #83

I don’t think that’s necessary. Most maps already have lots of suitable spots for prone that are underutilised right now.

I’d appreciate some screenshots. It made more sense in ETQW and ET, but with the map design of DB I’d find it to be a very useless feature.

The people who whine about badness of slide are usually the ones using ultra low sense in y-axis

Learn to aim in 2D lol, 1D is again out of fashion

I’m not going to say things for or against prone, I’ve voted “Don’t care” on the poll thread, but there are definitely many places in DB where it would be beneficial to have prone. So many objects are at a height where your crouch does not protect your upper body/head entirely, and often I’ve then had the idea that “man it would be nice if I could go lower, because my head is getting shot and I can’t do anything about it”. There are so very many that I’m not going to start listing them, but for example on LB there are the pedastels that hold the bushes on the streets.

I needed to revive this thread, because it is very important to be able to prone, just to have the feeling that you have the possibility to prone if you are losing a long range duel or anything, or too move like a snake (well, I don’t like snakes but is a cool move imo).
It cannot be denied that it will not be often used, but this is a big + !

I remember you could not prone on Battlefield Bad Company 2, and as soon as I saw that I refused to play it, you just feel stuck in your character, unable to move the way you want.

And really, if it is well implemented, it can be useless, but not negative, so why forbiding it ?

It helps camping, the action goes too fast for you to remain in a single spot without moving, the maps would require much modifications to allow prone, and as you say, can be useless.

Looks like a lot of work for a minor feature, there are more important things to fix right now, like finish the core mechanics. And incoming trick jumps will help feeling better in your shoes ^^

Actually i thought about this yesterday when playing W:ET + soldier with MG. If we had a character (presumably the soldier) with a MG (bipod version), then we even got a purpose for implementing prone

(except the MG would be similarly implemented like planting C4 currently, where you just press a button and go prone and totally loose control over your character lol).

W:ET had bigger teams, you could afford having 2-3 guys camping … here in DB it’s way harder. IMO you get killed like really fast if you ever prone. It’s like being in the MG of the EV lol, my favorite target when I’m a recon

Going undercover is a key part in a first personnal shooter, and camping does not mean anything, it is only a whine excuse, no offense  It is a fact that proning can make you earn a couple of seconds in some situations.

Of course I am not pushing SD, I am just trying to give my opinion to help them making a choice.
