Project Zomboid / Zombie RPG

(SockDog) #1

Been a while since this started so I thought I’d refresh the page and bump. A demo is now available via torrent download. The developer is still seeing tragically comical problems around everything but actually coding the game. Please play the demo and if you like it pre-purchase the game so they have the money to bring this to us all, it really is a refreshing take on existing available games.

From the website here is the TL;DR to bring you up to speed.

TL;DR – Just Give Me The Gist

[ul]
[li]Project Zomboid is a Zombie Survival RPG. Here are some of its planned features:
[/li][li]Retro-isometric style with plenty of zombie insides thrown in for good measure.
[/li][li]A massive city and the surrounding areas to traverse, explore and loot.
[/li][li]Open-ended sandbox world – survival is your only goal, and we’re sorry to tell you… you WILL die eventually.
[/li][li]Get infected. How will you spend your final days? Will you have a heroic moment of self-sacrifice, or end up chewing your best friend’s throat out?
[/li][li]Meet other survivors who you can join forces with, trade with, undertake missions for, or fight with for resources.
[/li][li]Loot, salvage, and build what you need to survive the apocalypse, from food and medical supplies, to weapons, even just booze to help get you through the nights.
[/li][li]Advanced item crafting allows you to use looted items to build weapons, traps, defenses, and many other things to help you survive.
[/li][li]Character progression. Learn skills and perks to help your character face the challenges of survival.
[/li][li]Starvation, illness, loneliness, depression, alcoholism, drug addiction, suicide, insanity, trust issues. There’s more to zombie survival than shooting zombie heads off.
[/li][li]Join your friends and survive the apocalypse together in co-op multiplayer.
[/li][li]The world changes the longer you survive; power plants fail, plunging the city into darkness and making batteries and tinned food prized commodities. The army rolls into the streets to perform ‘clean up operations’ and other gamechanging events occur the longer you survive.
[/li][li]Play in your browser, or stand-alone, on PC, Mac and Linux.
[/li][li]It will be released Minecraft style, where there will be continual updates adding new features, weapons, game-play and locations.
[/li][li]It is available here and there will be a tech demo coming soon.
[/li][li]The tech demo will just show a fraction of the planned features and is merely a taste of what is to come. We will continue developing after this point, feasibly for years and years, improving and expanding the game.
[/li][li]We have an active community that helps drive development, which can be found here.

Lets Play of the 1st Pre-Purchase Alpha

Zombie Apocalypse meets X-Com. Could be fun.

I’m loving the idea so far and it seems to fit a lot better into that role play of zombie survival. They may need to put in some goals at some point and multiplayer seems a popular idea but this’ll be a great ride none the less. I also quite like being able to listen to a developer pitch and green light rather than rely on some soulless bean counter at a publisher.

Once they get their servers migrated and setup and a release date for the free Alpha I’ll be bumping this thread with some updates. Until then if anyone has an interest in the game they should head over to their forums as they’re open to talking about the game and taking suggestions etc.

Zombocalipsys-Com ? Nvidia edition ??

(Auzner) #5

This looks like an isometric rogue survivor. Now if only dwarf fortress got graphics.

(SockDog) #6

They have a forum for comments and suggestions, the game isn’t even in Alpha so influence, within reason, can be had.

And well, Zombie > Dwarf

(Auzner) #7

Dwarf Fortress trumps any game as far as detail goes. The elaborate micromanagement involved with the macro economy is incredible. It’s not really the same play style as a zombie game, it’s more like build a city in a Tolkien setting. I’m just saying that there are plenty of very good games that are obscure and don’t have much graphics treatment.

Bump. See first post for updated info. Game shows a lot of possibilities and deserves some cash loving.

Nice. Demo has non-torrent mirror. Reminded me of a polished and less actiony version of this lil game.

Can’t wait what a beta/alpha will bring if this is a pre-alpha. Game runs great and is a lot of fun, but i’d really like a save feature or it’ll become too repetitive doing the same things in the beginning.

edit: A fps limiter would be great, my lappy keeps getting hot in my lap, but not a big issue since installing proper thermal grease.

New article on RPS
