Programs that will ban you

(Zita) #1

Just got a 2 day ban for using a 3rd party program. I was amazed to find out that it was Sandboxie that seems to got me the ban.

Now I have spent Money on this game cause I tought I would suport the devs on this, but lets start using some common sence, you should not throw your player base to the wolves just because they want to protect there PC, there are ways of knowing if Sandboxie is a problem (TBH you should already know this, and how it can be checked).

Now if you want to follow the road of banning because of certain programs being used, then it should be clealy stated on the front page when you log in which programs are unacceptable to be running in the background, (I mean you have a list here, put it on the front page) It should not be left for the player to have to troll the forums to find out the reason for the ban.

Now will I spend any more money on the game, ATM I highly doult it, and from talking to others it seems to be a reacuring theme.
The game is enjoyable and I’m quite happy to got through the hassle of bugs ect, till they are sorted. But this is not a bug and to me unaceptable.

I doult if and of the mod’s or dev’s will reply to this, but had to have my 2 cents worth of rant

Unfortunately not everybody is as good natured as you. Sandboxie can be used to help hack the game and create a negative experience for many. Also unfortunately, anybody using it simply to protect themselves also ends up being flagged. Definitely a problem. From what I have heard(I only moderate these forums, I am not Nexon support nor do I work for Nexon) you will be forced to serve out the ban. My only suggestion is that you simply disable it when you go to play.

It really does suck to see players get caught up in this, but until XIGN is replaced this will continue to happen. As far as I know alternate anti-hack systems are being looked into because of the quantity of complaints about XIGN.

Best of luck and I am sorry for the misfortune.

@Ardez Thanks for the reply and for being very amiable about the whole thing.

Like you said I will have to serve out the ban, although unfortunate these things can and will happen In early beta programs.

I’m just hopeing that at age 53 I can remember to turn off Sandboxie each time, as I need to use it every day.
The reason for using Sandboxie is that I help out at a Drug and alcohol unit teaching basic programming and they send me their test programs (Hench the need for safety).

Maybe you could pass on to the Dev’s that some sort of splash screen might be helpful.

All the best

I keep seeing this repeated, but I haven’t seen any evidence of that. There is nothing sandboxie can do that can’t be done with a second PC or a virtual machine host.

That aside, if you are going to prohibit this software, users should be informed BEFORE they launch the game and are banned for it.

The current system is:

  1. Get error code
  2. Email log to xigncode
  3. Get email in korean. The only english lines have sandboxie in them
  4. Disable sandboxie
  5. Game works fine for a day
  6. You’re suddenly suspended for two days

It amazes me that customer service doesn’t see how absurd a process that is. Not to mention the fact that forcing users to disable security software likely exposes nexon to legal liability.

Also got banned for 2 days because of Sandboxie. It was bad enough to figure out why the game refused to start at first and now I forgot about the game running when I launched a software I have to use for work but don’t trust with a link that automatically starts it in Sandboxie.

Sandboxie is not a hacking tool by any means. You can run programs in a controlled environment for security and that’s all it does. You can just as easily use a laptop to load a second instance of Dirty Bomb. AutoHotkey (which was my first suspect of the game not starting) is fine though which you could use to macro anything you want.

I sent a ticket and if I have to wait 2 days for the ban to pass I’m done with this game. Not because I’m impatient but because this lack of common sense and transparency regarding what is and what isn’t allowed is doesn’t worth the time invested in an otherwise decent game.
