Profanity filter?

Please understand that I am asking that dirty language be removed from dirty bomb. For many, this element adds realism and is an integral part of many of the best character dialog options. I would just like a check box in the options menu to turn it off. I myself am not a fan of the F bomb and many of the younger folks in my gaming clan are being kept off of the game because of it. Many of you will point out that the rampant murder and endless aggression of the game should keep them off, but its a lot easier to slip up and say something you’ve heard than accidentally throw a Molotov or call in an artillery strike. I am posting this to gauge interest and put a bug in the ear of the devs.

How might this be implemented? Bleeping out the offending words would be the easiest course of action I suppose, but I myself have a few suggestions that might be a little more entertaining:

  1. Atrocious overdubbing of dirty words. Don’t even use the same voices. Example: Phantom’s Trick or Treat taunt could end in someone sounding like a little girl saying something like “sassafrass” instead.

2.Steal from the Penny Arcade strip concerning this very topic in Gears of War and change all dialogue with over the top complimentary speech with perfect grammar and diction. (I suspect this would be expensive and time consuming however.)

  1. Finally the most boring option, just cut the words of the sound file. The result would probably sound pretty messy however. (It would also make Bushwacker’s lines about being a smart @$$ completely non-nonsensical.)

Anyway, these are my thoughts. Doing this might get more folks playing, it might not. I just wondering.

Trick or treat motherfucker

Um…well this game overall with the elements is meant for an older audience… there’s a reason why it’s called DIRTY Bomb.

(DirtyHarrier) #4

Also, you’re playing a game where people get blown up into bits and you’re worried about the occasional swear words?

(SereneFlight) #5

If you can’t handle it, Nintendo’s censorshipment got you covered with Splatoon.

…even tho I wonder how you’re able to browse the internet if few curse words here and there bother you so much.

(Nail) #6

game is rated 17+ why do you have younger people playing ?

(MarsRover) #7

The swear words in DB are already in every elementary school kid’s vocabulary. Besides that, molotov agony screams sound way more disturbing than a few mild curses.

If they can’t hear the Fuck-word, they probably too young for the game. I am pretty sure, it has a 16-restriction. And to fuck is a legit term you learn in school in sex-ed under 16.

Well, at least the forum has you sorted out with your random username.

As for profanity in this game, I don’t think of it being too great an issue to bother with. It’s the world we live in today, and I personally wish it upon the “Holier than thou” folk to shove it up their…

I do recall some of the game’s dialogue being a bit awkward, where the profane words just don’t exactly seem right for the context, a bit too forced. Just can’t remember which.

PS: If the younger members aren’t allowed to hear profanity, they aren’t part of the game’s demographic either.

As an expressive figure you should understand that censorship only hinders your ability to express yourself

Shiet, matuno beat me to the punch

So you’re saying that their parents allow them to frag and teabag other players while they can not hear any cuss words. That seems totally presposterous to me. Especially when there’s only a few f-words here and there.

Well, I guess they should also add a teabag censorship in their game :

Hey @expessiveFigure,

We currently do not have plans to add a profanity filter into the game, as it would require a lot of development time, and we don’t have much to spare at the moment as we are going full throttle to get some big features into the game as fast as possible.

I however understand your concerns and will pass them along.

I am closing this thread for now however before it devolves any further into a flame-fest.

Cheers.
