Problems with light styles and radiosity

Ok i got a problem: I added some light styles to my map but when i did q3map2 “freeze” during this stage:
— Radiosity (bounce 1 of 3) —
0…1…2…3…4…5…6…7…8…9… (1)
2441 diffuse surfaces

after this nothing happens, still q3map2 is “alive” it’s not crashing but it doesnt show any progress i waited for several hours but nothing happend.
things worked great before i added those lightstyles dunno really if this is a bug or if your not supposed to use radiosity with lightstyles?
im using these switches:

-meta
-vis
-light -fast -fastbounce -patchshadows -bounce 3 -samples 2 -nocollapse

q3map2 version: 2.5.8 win32

Can you try again with the verbose (-v) switch so I can see where exactly it’s locking up?

If you can reproduce this problem in a small map using default game textures, I’d like to have a copy so I can track down and fix this bug.

I’ve been having this problem with two diffrent maps…but i’ll do a small test map and see if i can reproduce this error again. if i do i’ll send it to ya.

uhm… i did a small map very simple using q3’s default textures, i added lightstyles and a few lights, used the hellsky2bright sky…and everything worked fine… then i tested to compile that slstyle map you have at www.shaderlab.com when i compile that one q3map2 dies… this is really confusing me it seems to have something to do with either the size/ #brushes or #lights

What exact options did you use to compile slstyle when it crashed?

-light -fast -fastbounce -v -patchshadows -bounce 3 -samples 2 -nocollapse i used those options when compiling slstyle.
i’ve tried using -super 2 on another map but i got the same result…

EDIT:
Ok i was a bit more patient and tried to compile slstyle again. guess what…after awhile it started to do those bounces…it seems to work but it just takes a lot of time before something happens. im going to let my map compile during the night and hopefully it will work too…

i dunno if it’s my puter that’s the problem but without those lightstyles i compile this map in around 5-10 mins…

ok compiled my map with 3 bounces… i waited for 6 hours and q3map2 had only finished 2 bounces of 3…it just goes incredible slow it just stays on — SetupEnvelopes (fast) — for several hours, once this stage is passed progress moves quickly.

btw you’ve done so many amazing things with q3map2, i whould never dream of having lightstyles working in q3, but now i can :slight_smile:
When will the next release be out?

Q3Map 2.5.10-test-1

Fixes a couple bugs, including BSP crashes (hopefully) and styled radiosity taking forever at SetupEnvelopes.
