problems after conversion

([F1]r3v) #1

I finally got the .bsp to convert to .map…

but somethings are not getting converted… and i get some errors when trying to recompile back to .bsp to test it

actually a shit load of errors…

anybody know why this is?

The bsp to map conversion is not perfect. Some things, such as texture alignment, detail brushes, func_groups and misc_models are irretreivably lost in the compile process.

A map converted from a bsp cannot be simply compiled as-is.

Ripping off someone else’s map shouldn’t be easy.

first off i would love to thank everyone for their help…

second… as far as that quote goes, dood seriously RTCW is dieing, im just trying to revive a little fun in this game, i am not STEALING this map, im just changing a few things, only FUCKING thing i am going to take credit for is the changes that i have made. SO GG

Do not modify and release someone else’s map unless you have their explicit permission. Doing so will only earn you the ire of the community, get you blackholed and banned.

So ask…

its village… a STOCK MAP… a map that came with the game, i tried contacting the manufacturer of the game, and activision directed me to ID Software, and ID directed me back to Activision, and they both said to check out nerve, which has failed to reply back to me in over 4 emails… so oh WELL… i would never take a custom map and edit it though, i only started this project to MAYBE try to liven up season play, because the customs that HAVE been put out for RTCW have pretty much been 95% crap and have never really been widely accepted into league play, so ALL i am trying to do is perfect the maps that the community loves, the ones that CAME with the game.

so please dont be so swift as to pass judgment guys, im trying to help the rtcw community NOT steal someones work, i understand mapping is a delicate and time consuming process…

thx

Well do what you will, and justify it how you like. Doesn’t matter to me.

I will say this though. When the decompile option was added to q3map2, I went back and decompiled a few of the maps that came with RtCW to try and learn from their techniques. However, I don’t think the original maps were compiled with q3map2 and it shows. When trying to decompile them, I got brushes that were 1000s of units long, and it was a complete mess. Nothing I could learn from and most definitely nothing I could ever see being compiled again.
