Problem with Shaderlab mirror?

The shader manual page seems to be acting a bit oddly, at least for us Firefox users. Sometimes there’s an ad banner in the top right corner. OK, that sucks, but I guess that’s what you get with free hosting.

But when there is, none of the links on the page will work! You have to reload, or hit back and forward, and try again. Also, on the TOC page sometimes parts of the top of the TOC are covered up by ad graphics that are scribbling outside the lines so to speak instead of being confined to whatever box on the screen they should be confined to. Looks like a simple 460x60 gif with a normal HTML link wasn’t good enough for them so they had to use some weird script which then breaks on obscure browsers (i.e. anything not by Microsoft) …

Since the adds bothered me that much, I decided to download it, clean the code and change the links here and there so I could place it in my GTKRadiant folder to replace the old Q3Map shader Manual.

Download it, goto your GTKRadiant dir, rename the Q3AShader_manual folder to something else (or remove it if you’re sure). Then extract the archive there. It will extract the Q3AShader_manual folder, but with the new manual inside.
If you need it, just go to the help menu in GTKRadiant and hit General->Shader manual.

Here’s the download, credits still go to Ydnar and Obsidian: (and if you don’t miss the adds as well, think of me too :P)
Q3Map 2 Shader manual, download

(If one of the two authors want to see it removed, please let me know ASAP)

Ads aren’t a problem if they’re not too obtrusive. Broken scripts that render the content unreadable or unnavigable for those of us who aren’t on the M$ bandwagon, on the other hand …

I’m using Firefox 1.5.0 (also tested with 1.0.7) and I don’t get any issues other than the banner ads on the side. Yes, the side banners are annoying, but they don’t seem to cause any operational problems here. I just clicked on every single chapter in the manual and every page loaded fine. So I think whatever problems you are having are confined to your computer. If anyone else reports the same problems, I’ll look into it.

BTW kamikazee, rather than replace the original shader manual, place the Q3Map2 Shader Manual in your GtkRadiant directory in a new folder. Then open up global.xlink in a text editor and add the following entry:

<item name="Q3Map2 Shader Manual" url="Shader_Manual/index.html"/>

Change the url="" as necessary. The new manual should appear in the help menu now.

I knew that, but I don’t see the use of getting 2 manuals alongside if one is actually an update of another! :stuck_out_tongue:

The ads are random, so it was probably a specific ad that caused the problem. The links-not-working thing I’ve only so-far seen on the shader manual title page, also, in case it matters.

And of course they may have already found and fixed the problem script.

BTW what’s this “Firefox 1.5.0” you are talking about? I have 1.0.7 and no red arrow indicating an update is available at this time…which suggests that the “Firefox 1.5.0” you speak of either doesn’t exist or is not officially released yet…

(kamikazee) #7

No, it doesn’t show a red arrow as it won’t accept 1.5 as an update, rather an upgrade.
See http://www.mozilla.com/ to get it.
