Problem with Sensitivity and Iron Sight aiming!

(h0munkulus) #1

This concerns the PC Version of the game

Hello everyone,

There is a seemingly small but very inconvienent problem with the games sensitivity settings and iron sight aiming.

Aiming with Iron Sights changes sensitivity. While this is an ok default setting as this helps many players aim more “accurately” in Iron Sights view it is very inconvenient for advanced players that prefer a fixed sensitivity in all aiming modes. Ever changing sensitivity is a nightmare for “muscle memory” and can make it very unpleasant to aim for some players.

It seems there is a command for that problem:

g_ironSightSensitivityModifier “1.5” (presumably changing it to 1.0 would do the trick)

Unfortunatley this variable is network protected and can not be changed. I hope this is just an oversight similar to the FOV variable beeing protected and hopefully you will allow players to adjust the sensitivity to be constant among all aiming modes.

It also seems as if there is some degree of mouse smoothing activ. the “m_smooth” variable lets you adjust it from 1 to 8 but seemingly not to 0. Is there any way to completly disable mouse smoothing? Please regard that I have already disabled all other functions like vertical sync that often interfere with direct mouse controls.

Brink is great fun to play and I hope it will be possible to improve mouse controls to the levels of id-tech 3 engine games to secure a competitive future for this game.

Thank you for your efforts.

I know you have more urgent matters to take care of right now.

Just a little push so this does not get overlooked

In Brink, it’s better to shoot from the hip.

Please fix this, Splash. It is infuriating.

There seems to be a console command for this, “g_ironSightSensivityModifier”, but I cant get it to work. It looks like it is locked.

after some further testing i found the following:

  • adjusted iron sights do not change sensitivity.
  • the more the “scope” zooms the lower your sens gets.

this let me to conclude the following:

there is actually no iron sight modifier (this is why the command doesn’t do anything) but sensitivity scales with your fov.

this is actually acceptable for me. I just use adjusted Iron sights on every weapon :).

Since the patch a couple minutes ago i also feel like any mouse smoothing is gone. so i guess this was just because of the poor performance on a few maps.

keep up the good work SD!

I don’t agree with people who say it’s better to shoot from hip. Sure, maybe in small bursts and quite close, but the accuarcy is much better with sights. The circle reticel thingy gets very huge if you continuously fire from the hip.

yes please fix this, sux to have two completly diferent sensitiviry for hip or zoom

just as i fought everything is ok i found another problem:

ui_fov does not affect adjusted ironsight!

adjusted ironsight should be ADS aiming without change of fov (and hence sensitivity), so please make adjusted ironsights work with ui_fov. thanks.

(Al_Kamone) #13

get rid of the sens modifier on scopes pls. it shouldnt be in any pc game. We dont use thumbsticks to aim, so it is unneeded.

If it is there for the sake of balance, put in some sway or the like. dont mess with my sensitivity please.

Ye I have this problem too. It makes the adjusted sights completely useless

bumping, its really annoying, i cant hit anything with scope, just have to aim at same spot to hit somebody…

(Ino) #16

Would like a fix for this too, it’s extremely annoying with the barnett and a scope.
Also: please make it possible to keep a sens lower than “1”. I have to set “sensitivity 0.5” at the beginning of every round although it’s in my autoexec…

(h0munkulus) #17

push. some official word would be nice.

thank you.

Btw in Brink iron sights shoots you…

I’ve noticed this as well and would like to see it addressed.

I would like better mouse-control too.
Sometimes in battle, I’m forced to change the sensitivity-settings on my mouse (Logitech G9) when I go IS, but to be honest, the game hardlly offers time for this (which in a sense, is good haha).
