hi all,
I was hoping somebody could help me solve a problem i have with Gtk Radiant 1.5.0!
heres my problem. When i goto select a brush and only want to select a single face, i press CTRL + SHIFT + LMB … Instead of selecting a single face, it selects everything in my map.
I have tried to find a solution and was hesitant to post at 1st. I am a noob, it may be a simple stupid question, but looking on the net found me no help after spending considerable time.
@ IndyJones. Well… it wasnt a small rectangle problem as i selected various brushes (diff sizes etc.)
was curious as to why you mentioned using GtkRadiant 1.4.0. will i encounter many problems with 1.5.0?
@Sage. well m8, you got me pointing in the right direction. this is what i have to do to select a face. 1st i press SHIFT + LMB to select the brush ofc, then i press F and finally i have to press SHIFT + LMB again to select the face (for me it doesnt highlight each face though, but i can live with that.
So thanks for the feedback guys, very much apreciated
yes, 1.5 has a lot of bugs (ie vertexes, patches, texturing etc). although it looks better, 1.4 is more user friendly (even zeroradiant, a upcoming version of radiant is based on 1.4).
Vertices- You’re pointing to the “block” for making invalid brushes… keeps brushwork better. Rest… wtf are you talking about bugs, only bug I’ve found is when I use Windows’ “change user” tool, the radiant crashes. And there’s also some bugs with radiant plugins that are totally useless.
For user friendlyness, I won’t go arguing, cos it’s up to everyones opinions and what each likes. But I always loved the 1.5 interfare and hated the interfare of 1.4.
Since I started using the last 1.5.0 I’ve never needed to go back to 1.4. I agree, the older 1.5’s had lots bugs, but the last one is as sweet as a candy.
Well it’s a subject we can talk about forever, but here are my thoughts again. I seem to be obsessed about it, cos it got to be like 14th time I share them.
Well everyone can use what they want, they just act different. It’s just I think many mappers dis 1.5, cos they tried it when it came out, noticed it was buggy (ofc it was), and never tried newer versions of it, cos they didn’t know how to use it, cos it was different.
ive started with 1.4 … now im working on 1.5 (since a few month) and i never had problems … and it seems 1.5 compiles faster then 1.4 … just my 2 cents
The compiler is actually a separate process being run, so you can copy Q3Map2 from 1.5 to the 1.4 version.
Also, you can select single faces using the 1.5 version, only the keys are different.
There have been no changes for about half a year AFAIK, the project bled to death. The creators of the “Dark mod” for D3 forked it though, calling it “DarkRadiant” and improving/rewriting it along the way. See the The Dark Mod wiki: DarkRadiant for its ties with the mod or the DarkRadiant project’s SourceForge page for general info.
It may not be suited directly for W:ET editing if you download it, though it’s worth a try to copy the “game files” from GTKRadiant 1.5.
the vertex “bug” is annoying in 1.5, it makes it near impossible to work with terrain in 1.5, also the lack of being able to lock certain axis X and Y for example to drag a vertex in 1 direction
and invalid brush solution is simply brush cleanup

if not for those two issues 1.5 would be great[/QUOTE]
Don’t you make terrain out of tris? I’ve made all my terrains by hand in 1.5 and I’ve got no problems. With trisoup terrain, the tri count is same, but you can make it even more detailed. I haven’t been in need of locking axes, so I haven’t searched for a “special tool” for it. But you can work with +/- for z axis only and you can use the arrow tool to move only on one axis. There’s pretty much everything useful in 1.5, the usage is just different.
Edit. this starts sounding me proving myself, but keep on going if you want.
hi again,
Well this thread certainly has sparked a lil debate about which version is better!!
ok i just wanted to say that i have a couple more issues with 1.5.0 (2.1.2)
1st problem is when i compile the map it freezes when it does the “passage portal flow” process, i can get round this by pressing escape and it then skips it ( well appears to) and carries on, then comes my second problem raw light maps is rendering my lights and shadows wrong, fragmenting a single plane and scattering light and shadow not how it should (if that makes sense) Are these common bugs?
Also 1 last question…( i dont ask for much ).Will i have any problems if i choose to install gtk radiant 1.4 and use the map ive created in 1.5.0?
any more info i will gladly clarify further or up a pic if needed.

Sounds like you aren’t patient enough. Just let it run for some time. Complex maps take lots of time to compile. Compile switches affects here too.

A picture would be good. In any case this shouldn’t be about radiant, It probably is your mistake.
Yes and no. There has been some problems, but it works.
hi again,
Well Sage, heres 3 pics of my 1st attempt at making a map. so plz be polite and try not to lol too much at my noobishness:D
All i added was some rails to the footbridge in the middle left side of the map and this is what happened to the light and shadow. it changes on every compile:(
Regards to compile times, by adding a prim it had jumped from 20 minutes compile time to approx 4 - 5 hours b4 i had enough and pressed escape.
i think i was patient m8, this sticks at 3 or so and wont go further in the progress window as it did go up to 9 b4… now only 3 . As mentioned i press escape and skip it to get my BSP file and have done that for 10 or so compiles now. I assume this is part of the underlying problem…
For the portal problem, I doubt you don’t have detail brushes at all. Select all brushes except the “box around the map” (sky) and turn them into detail. Tutorial of detail vs structural brushes.
For the shadowing, it’s hard to see without knowing more specs. Do you have a proper terrain texture?
