Problem Keeping Players

I’ve been thinking a lot about levels recently. I know they’re meaningless in-game except to approximate playtime, but to some people (including myself) there is a pride in gaining levels and looking forward to the awards waiting. Here’s the problem I see with the current leveling system: it takes WAY too long to level up past level 10. I have 234 logged hours through Steam and 151 in match hours, yet I’m not even level 24. People want to feel rewarded for their playtime and when each level takes an average of 6-8 hours or more I can see why many casuals are leaving.

I hate to compare DB to COD cause I hate COD with a passion, but just take a look at how their rewards system works. Every few matches you’ll be unlocking an insignia or player card, or gun camo, or new gun, or new level. You’re always earning new stuff and it keeps people playing. 6-8 hours is a reasonable playtime for a fully featured single-player indie game for goodness sake. If I was just a casual player, why would I spend MORE time playing a shooter to unlock 1 crate that will most likely drop a credit booster over spending time enjoying a critically acclaimed story game like Firewatch?

I think the devs need to take a serious look at the amount of time it takes to earn the simple rewards such as credit boosters or equipment cases because right now, it sucks.

you make some good points man but if you realllly badly want level to show you play medics they make hands down the most exp take my aura if the teams good and the medis good the medi doesnt even need to kill anyone just heal. ive had matches where all i did was heal and made 30k a match in exp. the reason straight up front tank classes get less is to encourage the people to not just play run and gun or snipers.

as for a insignia and camos and as we call them trinkets. they give out a butt load of those and cases but you need to be there for the events. plus DB is a f2p they need to make money some how they cant rope you in with here buy is for $60 USD then the dlc. they need to push the game out so to say. then add a chance system aka cases and trinkets and what not. do events and giveaways then have a cash version to some things so they make money. DB is great but still a business and that will come first in most case.

It doesn’t take that long, or at least I don’t feel like it does. One day I was just like Oh look, level 100, cool I guess.

I think Splash Damage will be able to push out more flashy stuff once they solidify the foundation of DB.

i actually think its quite fast. ive encoutered many level 40 plus who I just question how they got there. just try to appreciate it when ur still low level, we dont expect too much from u guys

I think I was mainly trying to say that for new players, they will feel like progression is too long to keep playing. I keep playing because I like the gameplay and have kinda given up on the whole crafting system and level system. I just play for fun now. But I can just see it being a problem for new players.

Even just something as simple as making the levels go faster would help imo

Im not sure its a big point of contention regarding how fast new players level.

The noobies / single digit levels probably care more about all being herded together by matchmaking into one team vs veteran players that are level 20 - 100+.

I think that the improved matchmaking system would be most beneficial in keeping new players.

If nothing

And by the way, I see many level 1 players, as well as early single digit level players. There are no shortage of people trying the game.

The game can hit a big net of players if they advertise when the matchmaking is in place (and optimized maps, and new map, and mercs).

I try to encourage the low levels with tips and some comradery - which they probably need when the opposing teams level 125 player is using Vasillei and tastelessly picking them off while they are trying to figure out the map, in what probably makes them feel like there is hacking taking place.

Vasillei HAHAHA
thats a good one

im level 48 now and i still cant get screamed Hacks daily by other players.
maybe being bad at aiming is a good thing for the community because when i was level 5 MADNESS was still level 40 and there are people like Khoi Bui or Ana Vah still in mid level grind.

@Hawkeyeguy99 I will trade each of my levels to you past lvl 20 for an equipment case.

(BerylRdm) #11

I will give you all my levels for free.
I don’t see any reason at all for levels to exist.

Leveles should be removed completely
