problem: Can't find map...

(Fated) #1

I wanted to check my map in et, but when i tried to run it I got the error " can’t find map maps/ bunker.bsp.

( bunker is the name of the map )

In Radiant i did BSP -meta.
then in ET I hosted a server, went to the console and typed the following:

/sv_pure 0
/g_gametype 2
/devmap bunker

then I got the following message: Can’t find map maps/bunker.bsp

I tried to run it with my regular et and a freshly (re) installed et, both times I received the message.

Anyone knows how to get it to run ?

Do a search with your window explorer for "maps/bunker.bsp ". If it is there it should be in c:…Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory\etmain\maps\bunker.bsp…
I

When I look for “maps/bunker.bsp” I can’t find it but when I look for "bunker.bsp " then it does come up with the file in “c:\clean\Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory\etmain\maps\bunker.bsp”

(TFate) #4

And you’re trying to run if from “C:\clean\Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory\ET.exe” instead of Program Files or whatever?

(Fated) #5

Yes.
I’m not sure what you mean by the program files or whatever. If you mean the map\source\ folder or what you wanna call it " c:\program files\Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory\ET.exe" then I’ve tried to run it from that destination also…same result

(TFate) #6

Try putting the .bsp in “C:/Program Files/Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory/etmain/maps/” and running it from “C:/Program Files/Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory/ET.exe”

Sorry, these suggestions may seem stupid, but I’m pretty sure the solution is simple.

(Fated) #7

I’ve already tried "c:\program files\Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory\ET.exe " while it was in “c:\program files\Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory\etmain\maps” Didn’t work, just did it again and it still doesn’tt work. If you actually mean slash " / " and not backslash " " then I’d have to tell you that i can’t make directories\ maps using slash, only backslash.

the suggestions don’t seem that stupid…then again if you told me that I had to stand on my head and then run the damn program i’d prolly would actually do it…

There are no leaks in your map or anything like that? The compile runs ok without any errors? Does this happen on any other of your maps that you compile then test? Try making a little box map and testing it…

(Fated) #9

No leaks no errors, the compile runs ok. I tried the lil box map and tested it with the same end result. Can’t find it.
I just started making maps for et on my own. I’ve made a few with a friend of mine for quake 3 a long time ago, never had the problem.

If it’s "fault " in the compiling/building process it would either not compile it into a BSP file or would still find the BSP fill but then give an error/ et would stop working while loading the BSP file…would it not ?

What happens when you try /map instead of /devmap?

Try making an .arena file and putting it in “etmain/scripts.”

This will allow you to access your map from the Host Game section.

Here’s what an arena file looks like:

(save in notepad as ““bunker.arena””)

{
	map "battery"
	longname "Seawall Battery"
	type "wolfmp wolfsw wolflms"
	timelimit 30
	axisRespawnTime 20
	alliedRespawnTime	20
lmsbriefing "A giant lurks on the coast of North Africa. Built into the very living rock of the Libyan coastline, the Siegfried battery dominates the Southern Mediterranean. Siegfried's colossal 15 inch gun is terrorizing Allied shipping and protects Sicily from all Allied attempts at invasion. Here in North Africa, the Allies and Axis are put face to face, it's a fight to the death."
briefing "The mighty Axis shore battery 'Siegfried' is harassing Allied shipping in the Mediterranean. The Axis must protect Siegfried from Allied attempts at sabotage."
axiswintext "The tenacity and bravery shown by the Axis forces in the successful defence of the Siegfried battery has won the day and bought them yet more time to strengthen the Reich's defences. Superior Axis courage and tactical expertise have inflicted a humiliating defeat on the Allied attackers whose meagre tactical talents and faltering courage failed to impress. Allied Supreme Command is mightily displeased with this shoddy display. Lacking either guts or skill, the Allies' poor showing means that any invasion plans have had to be shelved until another way can be found to silence Siegfried."
alliedwintext "This convincing Allied victory has saved their shipping from Siegfried and has brought the build-up towards an invasion of Axis-occupied Europe ever closer. The skill they have shown in assaulting beach positions will prove of vital importance in the rest of the war. The Axis High Command are dismayed: the Axis forces have shown themselves lacking in fighting spirit and incapable of defending vital objectives, even when massively fortified. The Axis must do better: if they can't control North Africa, they can hardly hope to hold on to Western Europe."

	mapposition_y	849
}

when I do /map bunker I get the same result, can’t find it.

I made an arena file, placed it in the et/main scripts section. It didn’t show up in the host game section. I also tried to load it from the console, same thing “can’t find maps/bunker”

Edit:

It seems that there’s a problem with compling the map into a bsp, I’ve downloaded a program called : Q3map2Toolz. When I compile a map with that it will load the map.
