Pro Coder needed!

(PaiMan) #1

I am looking for a coder for a huge project that has at least 2+ years of experience and can devote a lot of time to the project.

If this is you, and would like to work on a professional project, than please email me.

(bacon) #2

You’d get more interest if you described the project…

(Ifurita) #3

Agreed. Sounds like you’re advertising for a job without telling anyone what the job is.

(PaiMan) #4

The project is a ET total conversion and I can’t go into great detail atm.

(No1_sonuk) #5

Are you a left-handed screwdriver salesman?

(bacon) #6

Well you’re gonna have to. I can guarantee that nobody will want to even look at your project when you say nothing more than it’s a TC.
We’re a friendly community, nobody’s going to do anything you don’t want us to do.

FWIW, at this point, I can’t even tell if you are a professional app developer with a well thought out idea, other talented team members already signed up, a realistic view of timelines and resource requirements or some 12 year old kid who thinks that a star wars TC would be the coolest thing since frosted cheerios but has no idea where to start - other than he needs ‘a coder for a huge project that has at least 2+ years of experience and can devote a lot of time to the project’.

I certainly wouldn’t go to work for some who just said, I need someone who can devote a lot of time, just trust me, come on down and start working, you won’t be disappointed.

Can understand WHY people dont want to give away plans and ideas etc… the ammount of people that would gladly read about it and rip it of directly would be quite high. Why not, if you ARE a coder with 2 years experience, ask? Its not that hard.

I work in a Job Center and I can tell ya, 90% of Jobs go without descriptions. Things like ‘Admin Assistant which consists of ‘General Duties’.’ I mean, wtf is that supposed to mean to any body? On top of this, I have also been to numerous job interviews meself which it was only then I was told about the job I will be doing, why, for who and what for.

I’m kinda new to the whole modding scene thing, at least so far as I’ve never been involved in a team doing it, so sorry if this is a stupid question, but: do people really think “wow, that’s a great idea, I’ll steal it and try and do it myself” rather than “wow, that’s a great idea, I’d like to participate and get that project done faster/better”? I personally would be in the second category - I’m always disappointed when I see a whole bunch of open source projects with similar aims as I think that if all those people were working on just one (or even two) project(s) they’d have achieved more instead of implementing the same things in parallel. In that case I guess people don’t always know someone else is doing the same thing, so it’s understandable, and sometimes people don’t want to participate in another project that already exists because perhaps they have their heart set on using a particular programming language, but in the case of a game mod, what is the benefit of stealing ideas - is there lots of money to be made from selling mods?

Regards,
David

dcoshea:
When our Call of Duty mod decided we wanted to diversify, we found that someone else was already working in that direction. Being as we didn’t want to steal any of their thunder, we asked them if they minded if we do it. As it turned out, it was a 2-man operation that was struggling a bit, and they were only too pleased to join our team.
Therefore, we both win. We can diversify. We get the benefit of their research. They get access to facilities/people they were unable to get before, AND they get to do their mod too.

On the other hand, there is another mod whose “intended” features are remarkably similar to ours…

Uhh, if you are worried about someone stealing your ideas for a total conversion, you have NO IDEA how much work is involved in creating something like that. Ideas are easy. The hard part is implementing them… IMO, the people who are willing to devote months or years of work to project are more likely to implement their own ideas.

There might be some unique feature you don’t want to describe in detail, but I can’t imagine anyone ripping off your whole concept. Even if they did, by the time it was implemented, it would no doubt be quite different from whatever you had in mind.

I wish the original poster the best of luck, but I suggest that without any indication that you have anything more than a ‘great idea for a mod’ you are unlikely to get much response. Almost everyone has a ‘great idea’ for a mod.

(Balr14) #12

Hell, I have about a dozen great ideas for mods and TCs. I have so many, I’ll even give some away. How about a remake of the game Blood with this engine? A game based on the movies Dawn of the Dead or Army of Darkness?

(ydnar) #13

How about a TC with some delicious PAI?

(ildon) #14

There’s also the problem of getting a lot of attention for a project before you know if it can even get off the ground. Anyone posting as PaiMan must have some credibility! (or just idle in #splashdamage and listen to Salteh too much)
