Preview shots of A Bridge Too Late

(Shallow) #1

Well, I’ve kept quiet about this little number for more than a year because I hate pimping something and then not releasing it for months and months, and I was a bugger for doing that with my Q3 maps. This map is now close enough to beta that it must be time to show a few shots though.

It’s a bit dark in this build, I’m playing around with the overall lighting and compile settings I’m using at the moment. Also, I’ll probably be changing the name when I think of one which isn’t so painfully unfunny!

I’ve still got a list of fixes and things to do as long as your arm, so there’ll be a beta when it’s good and ready and not a moment before

Looks really nice. To me it seems to have a lot of elements “borrowed” from the Winter Village level in mohaa such as the second screenie. Can’t wait to go for a wonder throgh this one

(MadMaximus) #3

nice work with the fog =)
has that ‘autumn’ look
nice

(BlackDeath) #4

Looks very nice

Lighting is great, textures mix well with one another

Great job, here’s a bannana…can’t wait to try it out

Just remember too much fog or similar distribution might cause that health info/name bug (the catacomb room in Resurrection being an example, though in that case it became a “feature” coinciding with the theme of the map).

(neotic) #6

I really like it, nice texture set. I could see using that for a few ideas I have.

nice

im so sealing those textures when it gets released

(thore) #8

sweeeeeet! only thing i wonder about is your carcass / skeleton framing (what is it called in english?)
as it looks somewhat randomized here and there. hope those are textures  i have a building of that
construction type in my map (farm) and it really is a pain doing changes to it, as it’s ‘all brushwork’.

looking forward to have a walk in there :moo:

(MuffinMan) #9

promising shots, keep us informed! if you need somebody for beta-test - count me in!

(Shallow) #10

Cheers for the kind words folks.

Schaffer: It’s been a long while since I played through MOHAA but I know the map you mean, it had really nice frosty shader effects on top of some of the walls as I recall. Any similarity is entirely coincidental though

thore: Yeah, the wooden frames look a bit off in places, most of the stuff on the upper stories of the houses is just flat textured brushes (so I can spend more tris at street level where the detail will be more visible to the player), jiggling those until they look right is certainly on the fix list.

Hi Shallow

What I meant is that architecturally it looks heaps simillar to the communication blackout level from mohaa. Here is a screenie from that level that looks really simillar to the entance to your village.
