would it be possible to make a mod like the quake 2 rail arena that has grapple gooks and possibly rail guns or something close? would it be possible to rip the grapple from quake 2 and import it here?

how would one go about ripping the grapple from quake 2…? is quake 2 even open source? i heard you have to pay for it on steam? what programs would i need? is that considered an entity? im getting better at using SD so i can make a few rail arena levels but i have no idea how to do the rest and im horrible at working with scripts still. im still having trouble with shaders and objs

To add the Quake 2 rail gun,you should learn some C coding first,to understand the code.
Take a look at the tutorial link what lakersforce posted above.
After you get the basics.
Download the ET SDK and the Quake 2 source code,
it provides that you have previously installed the Visual Studio or some program with what you can compile the project.

This gives you idea where and what files you must touch for adding the rail gun.

im trying to rip the grapple hook realy. does this require the same prosses basicly? i wanna learn to program anyway so ill check it out even tho ill probably never finish this by the time it is still around
There’s some grapple hook code in the Quake3 source files. AFAIK it’s not 100% completed but it’s a good start.
i saw a youtube video on it. its kind different from what i was looking for. the grapple in the mod i was talking about is alot faster and better for death match type maps i dont know how to post youtube videos here but it was like a red color line you point at a wayy and you basicly fly over there but you can shoot while you do it. im surprised nobody here used to play this mod

ive been reading alot on c and finaly starting to understand some but im not going to try to get the rail gun just the grapple hook to try to add into a tj mod with jumping and grappling across gaps while gamma jumping
bump here. sorry but i feel i learned alot about what i need to do here but still need some guidance and it would be even better if someone would help me eith this project is there anyone? or atleast someone that is willing to keep tchecking this thread and answering what questions i have?

What is the error dialog saying?
What do you want to achive with TJ mod?
it says something about not being supported by my prosessor and just fails to install… maybe an earlier version will work? if i can get this to work tho ill make a server and a few maps to go along woth the mod and hopefully it catches on or if not atleasty i can say i did it and will have more experience for whatever game i play next and try to mod. its gona be aa fun mod for trick jumping . i think it will be alot more intense. imagine gamma jumping then theres a big ass gap and a ball or beam or something in the sky you have to aim and hit swing on the rope till the next platform. this is the hook im going to find and use if i can figure all this out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCpZQq1-3fE but i guess before i even start can i get some feedback. think its even worth it trying to add this into a mod?
