Potentailly this game would have at least delayed everyone's BF3 purchase, oh well.
i think some devs want to push forward though. ubisoft has already said consoles are holding back gaming. gamers want more of everything and even when they came out they werent that powerful, now they seem archaic.

i have more powerful pc parts sat in drawers than are in either consoles. and nintendos wii2 is just a £300 cheap pc too
Sometimes I think they say that to push for “New Consoles” like an Xbox 720 or a PS4, honestly. (Like the Samaritan Unreal Tech Demo.) Which are rumored to be announced next year at E3. There is just a boat load of money to be made on console. I want to say Angry Birds sold 250mil downloads and that runs on a smart phone. Most adopted/easiest of use wins. Hence, smart phones and the Wii, consoles in general. Only difference, 3rd Party Devs don’t stand to make as much of a return on Nintendo. But Smart Phones Games make some serious cash and consoles as well.

It’s going to be quite amusing, this next generation  I personally can’t wait until MS and Sony announce the prices for their new beasties - in fact I’ll pay good money to watch the colour drain from the faces of current gen owners and developers alike  Your next-gen console GPU is probably going to cost the same as an entire current-gen console - better get saving! It’s debatable how much loss the big two will take on these new units. PC gaming will start to look very attractive and cost-effective all of a sudden  lol

Imo Pc gaming is already cost effective. I save SO much money off of daily deals. And summer sales got me a lot of games for a cheap price. In the long run (if you buy a lot of games), all the extra money spent on the comp. will come back in sales. (even if I keep upgrading my computer).

It is nice to see a pleasant post from you.

But that is only true if you purchase lots of games. This year was a big year for me and I am purchasing four, two of which are yet to be released (BF3 and Skyrim). Just those two are enough to last me the entirety of 2012.

(Nicko1021) #65

I just got into pc gaming, so I had to start filling up my library. I mostly have indie games though.

And I do enough pleasant posts if no-one calls me a troll, hater, or makes up silly reasons justifying brinks flop.

(burawura) #66

This preorder mentality gives publishers license to release unfinished, low quality games. Be a responsible gamer and consumer and stop preordering games.

(Nicko1021) #67

Just stop d-riding the developers when they obviously have faults.

(wolfnemesis75) #68

Not so sure about that…first, they usually sell the console at a lost (if its backwards compatible then its a huge bonus) and there’s reason to believe they do away with disk drive altogether. Is the DVD drive necessary anymore?

(St NickelStew) #69

Microsoft lost money on every Xbox sold … losses which totaled in the billions of U$.

Microsoft lost money on Xbox 360s for quite a while.

Microsoft will in all likelihood sell the Xbox 720 for a substantial loss, but will recover that through game sales and later by the costs of producing the unit decreasing.

I could buy a gaming PC today, so I won’t faint regardless of how much the next gen console will cost. In fact, the more expensive they are, the easier it will be for me to get one as early as possible.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say ‘next gen’ consoles will sport something the equivalent of a 8800GTX. Nothing more.

Console gaming is about budget. Consumers won’t pay over the odds for one.

Remember. The Key here is Accessibility. That’s the deal clincher at the end of the day. At a certain point it comes down to “the game” and what’s the easiest and most fun way to play it. I will pay whatever necessary so I don’t have to check the back of the game box for the dreaded System Requirements! Nothing more potentially deflating than those two words.

(gooey79) #72

I get that, but it doesn’t mean customers are prepared to pay a lot of money for a console. The PS3 at it’s £600 price point didn’t do very well. Now it’s around £200 - £250, let’s just say it’s fairing a hell of a lot better.

(peteXnasty) #73

The console makers learned a lesson from Sony with its original PS3 price point. That’s the main reason 360 and Wiki took the lead; PS3 was too costly. Hence, the PSVita, for all its bells and whistles, is the same price as the 3DS despite more features. Microsoft and Sony, in the face of not only Nintendo but each other as well, wont let the price go too high. Especially Sony at this point after the last few years…they need to fight back hard.

But back to BF…I hope there are quads for me to race and jump.

(Gorilla Gunk) #74

I’d make the switch to PC’s if I could afford it. I only got like $800 in the bank right now and no job.

And yes, I know I could build an awesome PC for that much or less but I got bills n ****.

As for BF3, I wanted to get it but all the advertising is turning me off. Yes EA, you don’t much care for your competitor CoD, you’ve made that point crystal clear in the past. Now it’s just getting kind of childish.

I personally think they’ll aim higher than that, but we’ll have to wait and see  The current tech is still capable, but is starting to look a bit crumbly. It was also ahead of it’s time when developed, which is why it’s lasted this long. It was very high-end - and is the main reason for the losses made on each unit. It doesn’t match up to current PC GPUs though, by far - and while people may be happy with their current consoles, the big two will need to have an improvement in visuals at the very least, to entice all of those people to empty their pockets again. If there’s no immediately obvious improvement, they’ll struggle to sell to anyone except those with bags of spare cash. Customers know developers won’t immediately abandon the current machines, based on past experience - therefore their supply of information won’t simply dry up overnight.

I think both machines will be around or slightly higher than the PS3 launch prices this time around

Bloody hell, one of these days people will actually read my posts before replying  This one wasn’t even long! lol

I said it’s debatable “how much loss” they will make. I know full well they’ve made losses on previous consoles - I did not indicate otherwise. I do, however, think they will look to make less of a loss this time around. I think I’ll have to start using bold regularly or put :stroggbanana: next to the more relevant parts. I’m guessing the pretty pictures are the best option.

Actually, the fact that the 360 was released a whole year before the PS3 was just as important in gaining that lead. It was the only next-gen console available until the PS3 launched. Many Sony fans would also have taken that plunge, re-saving their money over the coming months while they watched Sony fumbling with both the design and production of their new system, just so they weren’t without the shiny next gen that their friends had

(DarkangelUK) #76

The 360 and PS3 prices were comparable… IF you bought everything for the 360 to bring it on-par with the PS3. So if you stumped up for the HD-DVD drive and wireless adapter, that brought it right in line with the PS3 price and spec. In a way it was a good move for 360 sales to make them separate components, so those that didn’t need nor want wireless or HD-DVD didn’t need to pay the extra for them, so it kept the price more accessible, though ultimately it also helped bring the end of HD-DVD as the PS3 brought Blu-ray to a large chunk of people relatively quickly.

Of course there’s also the argument that you’ve paid more for your 360 over time just paying for Live access, where PS3 online is free. MS may have made a loss on all consoles, but they more than made up for it with other services and peripherals.

(peteXnasty) #77

Operating components is a terrible idea. Even MS backed out of that with the 360 resign; hard drive and wifi built in finally
