Possible idea? Make brink freeroam

(tokamak) #21

I’m pretty sure we’re talking MMOFPS here. It’s too easy to start throwing MMORPGS into it as these games don’t have the same engine constraints an FPS has.

The Old Republic is going to be a failure, me thinks. It’s got some really strong elements - but its gameplay is lacking and looks dated. I love the personalized story or “morality” system… But if the game isn’t fun it won’t be a success to anyone but the Star Wars fans.

Guild Wars was my life for about 3-4 years. And if not for my account getting banned (because it got hacked… That’s literally the reason they told me), I’d still be playing. Most well-balanced MMORPG I’ve ever played.

I recommend checking out GW2 combat skill balance system as well as the user-controllable battle stances. A lot of MMO RPGs are adopting more FPS style player interfaces, which I find much more fun than sit and mash 1-10.

It has nothing to do with FPS.
It’s more in-line with a third-person action game.

… Because that’s what it is.

I am referring to skill-shot/action abilities, which yes are more so related to the FPS concept.

Hit detection…? That’s a very basic game mechanic.
And there are countless genres that share it.

And it all started with games like Pong.

My point being that the game is in almost no way similar to an FPS, nor did the designers take queues from FPS development.
A majority of the concept comes from the Action-RPG genre.

Like the objective gameplay which was the center of their previous two games? Which were FPS?

(wolfnemesis75) #28

Not sure freeroam would work within the context of multiplayer… Mag did something like this, so its not out of the question.

(iezza) #29

no no, its freeroam with all the objectives unlocked, so you do on and your team gets points. and the most points after 2 hours wins and gets an xp boost.

(L00fah) #30

… So what? Objective-gameplay has been around long before FPS. = /
My point still holds.
Simply connect all the maps togethar and up the player limit to 64?

would be quite fun to say to say the least :)
This I would say is a good Idea, and perhaps expand the War for the Ark to each sides “Capitols” and draw battlelines that form a front along the edge of Lower Ark ad Upper Ark. I know this sounds a lot like Chromehounds, but that’s where I’m drawing the insperation from

(wolfnemesis75) #32

A freeroam version of Conquest would be cool.

(INF3RN0) #33

I think it would be cool if Brink had jet packs, laser guns, and destroyable environments! My Brink rouge has 99 DEX!!! I think I’m just bored.

So… Global Agenda, Firefall, Halo and Section 8? :stuck_out_tongue:
Section 8: Prejudice is a great game…
