Possible bug in 2.5.16

I am compiling a RTCW map i made last year to update a few changes but when i run my batch file it gets up to a certain point then crashes.

This is my batch file’s setup:

I dont have anything intruding on the compile process that i know of. So what could b making q3map2 crash?

Theres a number of errors and warnings in that log, I’d start by fixing into those.

i would say in the -vis parameter set there is a \ too much… and perhaps too many spaces in the filenames :wink:
You’re perhaps out of RAM or out of virtual RAM, means the disk with the swapfile is full… you might check this, too.

Yes, that is odd, unless the srf is from an early compile (the bsp showen has not writen it), but that should have been deleted at the start of the compile…

OK I re-exported the entire terrain, along with the hieghtmap and alpha image. And it still doesnt want to load the pcx file right. COuld it b q3map2 or q3map? At the moment im using q3map2 the latest 1. And for some reason the shaders dont want to properly load in the bsp ither but they load fine ingame and in the editor. Any thoughts?

Maybe you’re running q3map2 with wrong paths. Are you using a batch file or some frontend for q3map2?

Now im getting a PRT error how do i make the PortalFiles? BTW I’m not using GTK im using WolfRad. (with q3map2 2.5.16)

The PCX file is in the right place for some reason it’s just not loading into q3map2 idk why. As for the shader errors i always get them. And theres nothing wrong with them. But thats the new error and batch file.

The terrain was just rexported and loaded back into the map with the new pcx image and bmp image.

Looks still strange. It can’t fnid any of the textures you’re using…

You might try to start Q3Map2 from the base directory.
Open cmd window, go to the base directory,
and start q3map2 from there.

reference to the map file would be:
maps\SpmapPak\Castle1\Castle01.map

Unfortunately, i don’t have RtCW so i can’t help you out on testing a compile, sorry.

Perhaps all this path is too long, even for q3map2?

Or where did you put your own textures?

Just a stab in the dark, but I don’t think you want those quotes to be there when you are using DOS-style 8-character file paths.

problem. Have you tried setting fs_basepath in your q3map2 command line ?


LoadPCX: Couldn't read pcx/castle03.pcx

problem. If it can’t find the .pcx, it won’t finish the .bsp compile, and so will not make the .prt file.

FWIW, quoted names with spaces should work OK, no real need to convert to DOS names.

I have made quite a few maps with Wolfrad and i actually prefer it over GTK at times, there are a few issues i dont like but its worked for me before.

As for the BFS InitL …//main/ umm where?

Ok, (I still think your mad :stuck_out_tongue: ) but there are a number of things you will need to change plus your above problem.
First off, the rtcw shaders that come with radiant are a little diffirent from the ones in the game, you need them shders+ the q3map.shader in the “extras” folder that comes with q3map2. add q3map to your shaderlist.txt.
Open your common shader with notepad and add q3map_terrain to textures/common/terrain and textures/common/terrain2 so they look like so

Make sure easygen has not added any vertexlight detail in your world_spawn and add the terrain shader to the shaderlist. (you edited the first post, I know q3map was not on the shader list, not sure about the terrain though)

If q3map2 isn’t finding your textures, chances are it isn’t correctly locating the game files. So try something like


q3map2.exe -meta -game wolf  -fs_basepath D:\Develo~1\Progra~1\RTCWol~1\  "D:\Develo~1\Progra~1\RTCWol~1\main\maps\SpmapPak\Castle1\Castle01.map" >> compile.txt
...

Another word of advice… try to get the first command (the BSP phase) working first. Running the vis and light is pointless if you don’t have that working. Once you have the right command in your batch file for that, then move on to the next thing.
