Poor Performance

When i play a map by myself with no other players with vsync on a get a constant fps of 60. When i go online or play with bots my frame rate drops to around 40. Once it even troughed at 28. Does anybody know what causes this huge difference in frame rates?

Thanks

Big difference between playing alone Vs. playing online and/or with bots.

The CPU has more work to do calculating the other players.

On another note I have been getting very low FPS when enabling HBAO. My fps would drop all the way down to 30 from 90!! and would become, as many would say ‘unplayable’ ( GTX 590 and i7-2600k)

So I re-installed the latest drivers (270.61) and with the same settings and HBAO ON now its running at around 80fps.

I’m thinking if you had better performance before the patch, try doing a clean install of your drivers.

Must be real hard work for a processor to calculate 16 persons on the Battlefield with mediocre graphics.

My C2D was able to calculate 32 players AND destruction AND vehicles in BC2 without any major stutter or FPS drop, why is this not possible for a 8vs8 shooter without destruction,NO physicks at all, mediocre graphics and TINY maps?

I thought Open GL is so great!?

@ OP

Poorly coded game is the cause and graphics card developers who are to lazy to keep their Open GL up to date on their cards.

That’s pretty much it.

He asked why the performance drop when playing online, I tried to answer his question without beating on the game and its obvious flaws and the usual console port symptoms.

You see I have given up whinning about console ports on developers forums, its falling on deaf ears here sorry.

Wether a game is poorly coded or not, or rather , especially if it is coded poorly, the online experince will be affected by the power of your CPU./thread

I see. But when playing TF2 on 32 player servers i don’t get this issue.

tf2 graphics are very basic and the maps are incredibly simplistic. brink has many more polys.

what i find frustrating is that bc2 has double the people, much bigger maps, physics, destruction, vehicles etc and better performance!

Yes. Even in BC2 my performance is more consistent. Surely there is some kind of fix for this. My specs exceed the recommended specs and the only graphic effect i am using is motion blur!
