Poll on story mode
I reckon ET:QW would have been a better sell if it had included a SP module. Don’t comprmise the MP, but give something that will help build a client base. No SP or even a proper training mode would have been a turn off for a potential player

I was moving from ET so was already familiar with the game mechanics.
Then again, those objects didn’t really apply to Wolfenstein Enemy Territory did they?

This is a mistake, because W:ET was a a free game

I have no idea how people can be dependant on a game having single player, is it just me or are you just playing with bots (with the off chance that they may have a decent AI which even then means they are only similar to humans), and a little made up story. Granted the history of the game can be quite interesting, just i dont get the whole “i just owned a real person” feel from it

Well COD6 wasn’t free (far from it actually) And many players skipped straight to multiplayer. Same for Counterstrike actually.

Especially not in COD where killing someone means nothing at all.

The SP game would certainly be played, especially if it gave a detailed back story and high quality cut scenes.

SP elements would undoubedly find their way onto youtube earlier than other types of vids. That could make an SP version somewhat of a marketing advantage, too.

In the alpha/beta testing for multiplayers frag vids are often made, i usually purchase games based on those tbh (the ones im not sure on, if they look and sound amazing anyway ill probs buy it)

To me, bots are a godsend. I don’t worry too much about the “I just owned a real person,” feel, because I don’t ween feel tat when I actually do play against real people. I’m not competitive by nature…I don’t play to “own” the other team, I play to help mine, win or lose. When I used to play Quake 3 and UT back in the day, 90% of the time I would just play bot matches. I can setup a bot match, and not have to worry about bad sportsmanship, whining, getting kicked for no reason, etc. It’s also is a good tool for people who, well, don’t have online, and for those who want to “warm up” to playing online. Sometimes I don’t feel like like playing with friends or online…this way, I can have the online experience without the people.

If I could have my way, A LOT more games would incorporate bots.

Heh I’ll be quite sad if there’s no single player…
Just doesn’t feel right without one.

Bots still don’t have much of a psychology, I as well don’t play to ‘beat’ other people, but I do like it when the game rewards anticipation of other players. That was so great about the ET’s, if you could imagine what you would be doing if you were the enemy then you have already won the battle.

This is far less satisfying with bots, no matter how sophisticated.

+1 on every point you’ve made

I don’t have online play right now so single player has become really important to me. Even when I used to have friends come over and plays games, I loved a game with a good story to it that also was pretty long. Games without a good story usually get taken back to the store.

I guess we are worlds apart then. I personally adore the feeling of beating someone, or winning. And continuously striving to be the best, i cant help it i just feel good when it happens therefor motivates me to do it more.
