**Poll** Brink Beta ?

After seeing Black Ops run horribly on PC at my friends house I say a beta is definetly needed.
I mean I know that SD is a PC dev, but still. The servers, the performance. the balance etc.

It’s running on a highly optimized idtech4 engine - I don’t think they need a beta to test performance. I don’t think we need a beta and I don’t think we will get one. A demo seems more likely.

(Vaporman) #143

Demos are not ideal for working out bugs in multiplayer. Betas are.

(H0RSE) #144

That is why they are doing in-house testing.

(Vaporman) #145

That is commendable and I’m sure there is a high probability that this will be sufficient. But you’re still dealing with issues in an ideal, closed environment.

It’s not as closed as you think. Between SD devs, hired testers and others within Zenimax, I think they have all what they need to balance a game - especially one being developed on an engine they are familiar with and a genre they are know for.

Pretty much what Horse said. I don’t see there being an open beta.

I don’t really see them making a demo either. Don’t get me wrong I would love one but to me it’s just a feeling. Too early to tell though.

I was in teh ET:QW beta since phase 1 Open beta. I got my key from fileplanet. The game was so bad and so incomplete during that time. It got two patches during the beta if i’m not mistaken. The first patch didn’t do anything and the game continued to be crap but patch 2 did so much for it. Patch 2 basically convinced me that the game is worth buying. I love ET don’t get me wrong but early beta stages the game sucked.

Plus they need to check the game when there are thousands of players are playing and not just a couple of hundred or even fewer. Go read the old forums if you can find them, all bugs reported will still be there and Splash Damage being how awesome they are fixed most of it in beta itself.

Plus I don’t know but won’t they spend less giving a couple of thousand people the beta key and testing on a large area instead of spending for all those beta testers.

I feel the game might not be fully complete(in terms of features) plus I think they don’t want to reveal certain features yet. Also they will have to rent server for the beta test which they probably want to to closer to release due to limited budget

(brbrbr) #149

there is no “Sufficient” testing for ANY software product.
point is “acceptable” threshold[from many aspects and from different PoV of different publishers]is likely more noticed by managers in process of making decision.
subjective and [usually]mathematically/CASE-unbaked.

(aadis) #150

Probably would lose more money on beta testers. Since most free beta testers don’t actually submit bugs. One nice thing about open beta though is that it will hook in potential customers. Sometimes the game can be just mediocre but you grow attach to it during beta prompting you to pre-puchase.

Of course the opposite can be true too.

Imo, if the game is decent, betas are usually better than not.

Betaz rule!!!

It was a beta, not a demo

(Crytiqal) #153

seriously, do people even know what BETA means? or what?

(Slade05) #154

No they dont, and that is why theyre not getting one!

(mundox) #155

I’m sorry but I don’t trust devs anymore specially when doing multiplataform games, I don’t want another MW2/Blops (horrible ports) on my game list.

So, HELL YEAH!

Getting feedback from thousands of different configurations is not something your gonna get from a closed beta.

(DarkangelUK) #156

I don’t trust the public with betas anymore, especially when they have no idea what it entails and can’t tell the difference between a beta and a demo. Sure the devs get hardware feedback, but the amount of gormless, mindless mince that leaks from it because they think it represents the final game does more harm than good.

(Humate) #157

Played the sewer and valley betas as well.
The amount of rage that was generated from it was amusing to say the least.

So definitely no to an open beta, and definitely yes to a polished demo if they have time.

(madoule) #158

Second that and wisely spoken. Horse is damn right, they ve done everything inhouse plus they know what they r doing. Also, luckily, bethesda got their back, by backing several delays. Quite uunfortunate for us, but that prove in quality. Hence NO need for a beta. Demands for a beta are understandable, but downright egoistic… SD is not treyarch. Period.

(Apples) #159

A demo is an obligation with the amount of crappy games we see nowadays IMO, a beta is not, or should be exclusively given to every forumer with a fruit name, just sayin’…

Peace

Heh are you calling yourself a fruit?
