Please tell me I can turn off the auto walking when healing!!

(PariahDog) #21

Not just healing but in general the one button does it all function has its drawbacks namely its choice of targets… No I don’t want to gunbuff that guy I’m trying to build the thing. No, I’m trying to give ammo to the guy with 1 bullet icon left not the guy only missing 1.

Plus I’ve seen it take a second or two to come up. Sprint around a corner and look at a downed ally for a moment before it realizes oh hey you want to rez that guy.

The rezzing is the worst problem to me, if I’m trying to run past someone quickly while throwing them the syringe my lock really messes with me.

As a long time rtcw and et player I find this new system extremely cumbersome. If I were to pick one main complaint it would have to be the auto running to heal players. Why on earth in any fps game would you want to lose control over your own character? It has caused many deaths, where you used to be able to heal strategically and use your surrounds now I run around like some retard. Also healing the wrong person is now a major factor, same goes for revive. I would love an option to turn this off and also use a different key, try healing someone while capturing a cp its not too fun.

I am enjoying the new skill set of the medic but this area really needs to be looked in to as its a rather large step back compared to previous games healing styles.

If you hit the ‘healing button’ and someone is walking it glitches all over the place. Very annoying!

I’ve never noticed it loosing lock when I’m trying to buff (when someone blocked by view & I’ve already started buffing). I can have a hard time getting someone specific to buff, there’s no icon telling you that they’re already buffed. I’ve never had it take away my engy building icon when I’m building mines/turrets. I’ve never had it run faster then the player I’m trying to buff (normally I’m a medium), I’ve never caught up unless they stopped. Maybe if you have a faster sprint upgrade it uses it automatically.

I do like that, no matter what, once you start to buff (I’m assuming it’s same for ammo & medic) that once you’re in range it will buff no matter what: through players, walls, baddies, etc. That’s awesome! You can get good cover that way. Plus this way guaranties that when you heal/buff/ammo the other player gets it 100% of the time, no misses, etc. That made medpacks/ammo worthless in ETQW unless you were up keeping a stationary teammate.

I’d like an option that just drops buff/medpack/ammo for any teammate to pick up so you can do both.

Doesn’t it stop following when you let go of the use key? Only prob i have is when i want to revive someone, but another guy runs past me or when many of them are in one bunch. Kinda liked the old w:et/et:qw indirect interaction system better, but i’ll prob get used to it.

Agree with the OP. Would be great if this could be done for all classes.

+1 for turning off auto pull.

Gotta agree that the new system is very cumbersome, and much slower and prone to many more mistakes for experienced medics from other games who dont have problems with aiming and timing to heal / rez the right target.

Don’t think it’s a console vs PC issue as the OP claimed, but more graphics over gameplay, where they don’t want you to be jumping / moving around like a ninja when performing an action so the animation looks ok and not glitchy. Rezzing is an example of this, where you need to be a minimum distance away to throw the needle, and cant just drop it onto the body when standing directly over it.

As mentioned, the one button fits all definitely takes away from the fine control that having weapon slots to equip needles / med bags and use with the mouse button gives you, but may have been necessary due to the animation delay and subsequent loss of control that is present.

i dont mind the “auto follow” but the “auto look” is highly annoying especially when your in a fire fight.

I also find this functionality to be detrimental to game play. There was such emphasis on not losing control of your character while using SMART, but when I heal? I agree, turn it off.

Signed. This is the most infuriating part of my Brink experience…and I was an ATI 4XXX card owner!

(hiono) #33

i agree with this it always pulls me out of cover when trying to rez someone, and rezzing is another thing i dont like the amount of time i have to stare at someones body to throw the needle.

Oh, troubles with context sensitive mappings. No one ever saw that coming.
