Please remove "over-time" bug from the game.

(Rebel) #1

I’ve been encountering a terrible bug that has caused my team to lose matches numerous times throughout various play times. It occurs when the time-limit for a match EXPIRES, but the match continues for no apparent reason, giving the opposition time to finish an objective and therefore gain more mission time (or win the match). This is incredibly unfair, and gives wins to teams undeserving of it. The announcer even says “Mission ends in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1” but the mission does it not in fact end, and the enemy team gains time and we lose the match.

This bug is terrible and it ruins gameplay. If the time-limit is up then the game should be ended, no questions asked. Therefore, I move to a fix for this and a removal of said bug from the game. There have been multiple patches and not one person (or even the developers) has even addressed this ongoing issue that has been present since launch.

tl;dr: remove “over-time” bug from the game.

Thanks,
a.Rebel

It’s not a bug. Though some clarification as to what the over-time really means would help.

(IG THOMBOW) #3

It’s intended.

From what I’ve seen, it occurs when a primary objective is being executed while the time runs out, thus giving, let’s say, an operative time to finish his hack.
As soon as said operative is killed, overtime stops and the defenders win the game.

I’ve won the Nechayev game with it. There was like 30 seconds left, with Nechayev just outside of the ending point. I respawned and switched to medic with Minigun, only to get there with 5 seconds left, tossed him a revive and escorted that ****er right into overtime, fending off their whole team to win the game.

Pure win.

As already posted, it’s not a bug it’s deliberate (and it’s not unique to Brink). If you look at the mission timer, it’ll say that you’re in overtime and from memory the timer has a minus sign in front and starts counting up, indicating how much time in to overtime you’ve gone.

(Exedore) #5

It’s why there’s a config to disable overtime, we knew some wouldn’t like it, no matter how much we do.

OT enablers (all only on primary):
HE Charge active
Hackbox being actively hacked (if the Operatives swaps to weapon, it ends)
Repair active
Carryable deliver interaction (not the carry itself)
Escort in motion (if NPC put down or bot damaged, it ends)

LMAO @ “bug”…

This game is hard enough for attackers and you want to remove one of their few saving graces? Winning an objective in overtime as attacker is super-sweet.

(Sinner) #7

I love wins in overtime, even if it’s a loss for me, because it means the teams were pretty much evenly matched.

(Crytiqal) #8

What happends when for example aquarium the match goes into overtime when planting the charge to release the hostage?

Would the charge blow up, the hostage spawn and still continue in overtime?
If you then win that would be sweet xD

(Kalbuth) #9

^- Some of the best matches in my lil ET-like career have been in OT.

(.Chris.) #10

You get added time when you complete a primary objective.

The time extends as per normal and you get another 10 minutes or whatever. I haven’t checked properly, but I have a feeling the overtime is taken away from the remaining time in the same way that time is added normally (which makes fair sense - it’s the same system).

(Crytiqal) #12

Was thinking about stopwatch mode where you get the full 20 min from the start with no additional time
and if OT would be enabled

(InfiniteStates) #13

I guess in that instance it just postpones failure.

What the hell is wrong with you IG THOMBOW, it is 2011, being a racist is not cool anymore, ignorant prick.

It is sad that no one called him on it either. Just wow.

I have heard of this bug from other places, the overtime goes on forever until everyone leaves or the other team wins.

(InfiniteStates) #15

There are several things he could have written which are more likely to me as I’m from the UK. Especially as the “er” is left uncensored. If he’d written the word I guess you’re implying, I would assume 6 stars, not 4. Let’s see if the alternatives are equally censored:
bugger
wanker
****er

EDIT: The last one is what you imply. The second to last one is more likely - it starts with an ‘F’

I think its an excellent addition to the game, had some great close games that we have gone on to win because of the overtime feature.

bug lol.

With that knowledge I think overtime is awesome. Without this information it could’ve been arbitrary.

lol what a fail thread.

Thanks for letting games be fun to the end instead of the deathmatch in the last minute! Youve done a great job on this, thanks SD!

I’m sorry, but turning off Overtime would just kill the game and be a stupid move.

Rounds might as well end at the :30 seconds left mark if the outcome is already written in stone. Why bother continue fighting?
