Please no Generic American Warmovie music

(jazevec) #1

Hi

I remember interviews saying you are going to focus on style with Brink - something that ET:QW lacked*. You want it to be instantly recognizable and players saying “this looks like Brink”. It looks like Brink is going to achieve that goal, but you neglect one thing - the music.

I watched the cinematic trailer and it has generic american warmovie no. 67 type music. Exactly the kind ET:QW had - technically competent but common, generic, forgettable. I understand the music is likely to be present only in cutscenes and menu screens, but it would be nice to have some tracks you can actually recommend to a friend with a straight face.

If Brink will keep this direction with music, no one will remember the music a week from the game’s release.

I’d think people would perceive this as an obnoxious request.

Doesn’t make it any less true.

You can already hear quite cheerful music in the videos

Honestly, the worst thing that can happen is a trailer with that stupid hollywood movie announcer (you know who I mean!).

loved the music in mirror’s edge, it was made by a guy whose solo project is called “solar fields”, his latest album “movements” is great!

while music is very important, for me the soundtrack will be delivered by winamp!

in the vid, i heard some soothing music.

classical, ambient,wale mating sounds…?
yet cool

Well, it would be nice to get Straylight Prod. people to do soundtrack(with authentic shhhh of 16-bit tracker module, yay!), but I guess it`s a little bit late.

Maybe for the next game?

I can hear heated tribal drums for the resistance and eerie classical for the security.
Also, RIP Don LaFontaine.

I thought the ETQW theme was pretty cool. I turned off the music pretty quickly, but whenever I hear it again in vids etc it still gets me.

(H0RSE) #16

Even if the music is ‘generic’ (I don’t think it is) if it works, it works. Don’t fix it if it ain’t broke. I think the music in the trailer works well with the cinematic.

(brbrbr) #17

can’t imagine country and jazz ingame, so you can relax.
i guess.
altering music “just to show game to friends face” ?
and thus possibly - cripple other players experince[especially 1st expressions/experience]?
i don’t think so.
and think, ETQW musci is on right way 4 such.
with slightest alteration, maybe, because storyline/gameplay is not around World-Sized Apolcalyps/War fighting in “all out” style/mode, but freedom fighting 4 survival at Ark.

So far from the samples ive listened to on the website and in the videos which they have released - there have been quite a number of themes, which Ive been impressed with.

Rage against the machine would be fitting - shall we start another facebook group?
