I’ve always hated /kill, and I LMAO when I watch clanmatch demos and see the buffer filled from top to bottom with /kill suicide announcements. But, the fact of the matter is that it’s needed for the purpose it was created for, which is map glitches, etc. Since it’s been adopted as a “tactic” by players, it should be held in check, but not by taking away XP, or giving “theoretical” XP to the last person to inflict damage on you who may have gotten it had you not done a /kill. The most common use for /kill is for holding newly captured spawn points, which I consider a little bit slimy, but I can live with it. Next in line would be the arty/panzer whoring, which is absolutely unacceptable IMO. Reality check folks: The charge bar was implemented FOR A REASON, and any method of bypassing it is slimy. Fortunately, you have ETPro to solve that little oversight, along with another mod which I won’t mention by name because the very word makes my skin crawl.
As for the specific complaint of the thread starter and his clanmate, I must say that you were a little bit condescending the way you implied that people here only go slumming on pubbies and don’t play in clan competitions (which is true for me, but I digress). I say this because you seem overly concerned with your XP, which is generally considered of minimal importance by clans, and is even loathed by many. If an enemy does a /kill to avoid death in order to have a nice kill/death ratio at rounds end so they can take a screenshot for their 1337c14n.tripod.com page, then simply making a /kill count as a death would solve that immediately. If, however, they are doing it simply to deny you your precious(?) XP, I really don’t see a fair solution to it, and in fact I don’t see any solution being waranted, since I also don’t see it as a real problem. The fact is, you really can’t be certain that they did a /kill simply to deny you your hard-earned XP, unless they specifically say “Haw haw, no XP for j00!”.
So in short, if Bani made a /kill count as a death (if he hasn’t already, I’m not an ETPro expert), then that combined with the charge bar staying where it was when you did the /kill, which he has already added, would make ETPro the perfect /kill solution. Serious /kill abuse would be stopped dead in it’s tracks, being only usefull for it’s intended purpose as well as spawn point holding and ammo restocking, and even then one would have to consider the death that would be counted against them when doing so.
BTW if I contradicted some previous statements I’ve made about /kill in these forums, it’s because I’ve reconsidered my opinion of it, and have become a bit more lenient towards it.
