please give us spawnchoice

im little frustratet since i know that there will no spawnchoice.
this inflicts direct maps and game.
i was looking forward to “try” to create new variations of some et maps.
many of the best maps had spawnchoise radar ,supply,adlernest,braundorf…
it was always a big point of the gameplay and of taktiks
i dont say SD have to create their maps that way but let
us please be able to create some this way would be nice :slight_smile:

especially for comp, if you know that you cant get the bomb defused and have to spawn @ frontline again is *****

This is the kind of design decision that would need to be made much earlier in a project. At this stage, retro-fitting selectable spawns into existing maps and UI is a lot of work. We’d have to evaluate gain <-> workload. Not saying it’s out of the question, just that it’s very unlikely at this stage.

I don’t see the value… why would you ever not spawn on the front lines? The only advantage I could see on the current main maps is on waterloo to get behind the wall and on that top area before the offense takes the forward spawn.

also sometimes spawns can rly be unlucky and if the whole team spawns direct near enemy the defense is instant dead

It’s very important for comp play, because a failing retreat could cost you the next objective.

I really wonder why such an important design decision hasn’t been made from the beginning on. :confused:
Would be fixing these random spawn points the same amount of work? Or can we expect a change in this regard?

Oh wow! Didn’t realise it had to be made so early in the process. Was it discussed at all? At least we’ll get spawntimers in the game so we can just fall back earlier, right?

There were plenty of advantages to choosing alternate spawns in many of the best playing ET maps, radar being the best example (Frostbite being another one for D).

I would love to see the ability to choose your spawn in xT, but it’s not a game breaker if you want to port. You just need to get a little more creative :slight_smile:

I agree with OP, selectable spawns are great, and a must if my Base Race is ever going to happen … Maybe for new game modes ? This would not get you to rework the content already produced.

Also if maps are shortened, there is pretty much no more need for forward spawns … just saying. It’s not anymore the big maps or Enemy Territory.

Why did you decide to not put them in? Right now I can understand it as most maps are linear, but it would be cool if your future maps will have it or at least have the function built in so mappers from the community can use it.

And why are selectable spawns retro? I mean a lot of modern games still use them.

i think it also would help a lot to balance some maps , there was a reason that the community put in sw-goldrush a cp

maybe that would be a way for LB

I didn’t say they were retro. I said it would be a lot of work to retro-fit them into our maps and user interface, ie: currently the game (rules, systems, maps and user interface) is not designed for that. As such, we’d have to redesign and update lots of things in order to accommodate the system. I don’t disagree with the concept at all, lots of games use it. All I’m saying is that it’s a lot of work, and we already have a lot of work to do.

Maybe they wanted to make that part of the gameplay easier. It was a bit of a mess to have a proper spawnscript/selection system in your config in ET (not to mention scripting your custom map :s). Nevertheless, I agree that for competition it can be a huge loss. But they also want the game to be easy and fun to play for everyone. With regard to that I kind of understand the decision.
