PLEASE Fix Ranked!

I don’t usually post on the forums, but I’ve absolutely had it up to my ass.

There is NOBODY playing ranked. NOBODY. It doesn’t matter when you queue up, peak hours on a weekend, whenever: it is completely dead.

I’m in Silver, what is likely the MOST populated rank – still nobody. I can literally sit there and queue for 8 minutes straight with zero results.

Oh, and let’s say you finally do get into a match (after a 10 minute wait ofc), then you are scraping the bottom of the barrel for players. 200 pingers, complete noobs, MLG pros – there aren’t even enough people to properly balance to a queuer’s skill level. It’s like the game just goes “fuck it” and throws the 10 people actually looking for a match together.

Can we stop pretending that this isn’t an issue? Please? It’s just suffocating the life out of any competitive scene this game could develop. Or Twitch scene, Youtube scene, etc…

We have stupid frilly shit like Execution (Christ knows we needed that!), but Comp, which is what should be the core of any fast-paced FPS, is dead and totally neglected.

“Just play pubs” you might say. Yeah, I would, if there was something like, IDK, 5v5 Min Lvl 10 pubs. Oh wait, there aren’t any of those. There are maybe (3?) Min Lvl 10 servers, and there’s no incentive to play on them, so your average casual DB player won’t even bother.

So then you gotta play one of the numerous, overcrowded, 8v8 pubs filled with stompers and worthless noobs… zero skill balancing, just like ranked!

Here’s the issue: 50% credit bonus means N O T H I N G when it takes 5-10 minutes to queue. You may as well just play pubs, you’ll earn the same amount of credits, as you’re playing more. End of Season Trinkets are the absolute worst reward I’ve ever seen. I hate to say it, but yes, the Trinkets are a crap idea, they look stupid on guns, they’re barely noticeable, other players don’t get to even see the item itself – I don’t even get why they’re in the game, I’m honestly about ready to take off my Gold Pre-Season Trinket because it just looks tacky on 90% of all the primaries.

Here’s a solution: an actual, tangible credit reward based on end-of-season rank. A case every 2nd comp game rather than every 3rd. Perhaps some exclusive season skins? How about some expert/elite cases based on rank?

No, this isn’t me acting like an entitled F2P whiner (I’ve spent 30$ so far on cosmetics myself), this is just the only way you can get people into the comp scene and save it. More people = more fun comp = more comp players = more tourneys, streams, game exposure and dedicated, paying fans.

Or y’know what, I don’t even care. You can FORCE people to play comp and it would STILL put the game in a better state.

It’s a downward spiral. Matchmaking sucks because people don’t want to play it, and people don’t want to play it because matchmaking sucks.

I’m sick of either stomping the enemy team or am expected to carry a team of potatoes against tough opponents. At least in normal games there’s nothing at stake and there’s more players to gamble with.

Agreed. That’s why I think the only way to actually improve the situation is to literally bribe players in.

Once the ball starts rolling, more and more people will join in, seeing as it will be a better experience.

I would do it like so:

– Bronze offers no rewards at EOS (end of season)

– Silver 5 starts with a flat 5k EOS credit bonus

– +1k credit bonus per Silver rank gained

– At Gold 5 you will receive 10k credits plus an elite case

– Again, +1k credit bonus per Gold rank

– At Cobalt 1 (should be 3, dunno why they switched order up), you will be receiving 20k credits and 2 elite cases

– Each Cobalt rank gained gives +2k credit bonus

– Reaching Global Elite will grant you the aforementioned bonuses (24k credits, 2 elite cases) PLUS a super-exclusive skin (changes with each season)

Seem fair enough? IDK, it might be. And you should also be getting a case every 2 games, also.

Playing competitive has to be worthwhile. The +50% credit is laughable compared with missions and daily wins in pub, plus the waiting time. I said it in another thread. Competitive must become the go-to mode when you want to farm credits and cases. This should go hand in hand with a higher entrance level for comp, harsher penalties and rewards based on individual and team performance instead of time.

The whole mission thing doesnt make sense when you have reached a certain level. I have played with all mercs and I know which ones I like and which I dont. Filling a slot in my squad with a merc I dont like for 15k XP (I am looking at you Vasilli) just to get 1k credits will achive mostly one thing. I wont play competitive with that squad.

This. There’s no team play possible with randoms, no one wants to wait in a queue for something as meaningless as extra credits, trinkets are a shit incentive. Why play MM? Zero reason.

The entire mission structure is just a rotten foundation. Every single one of the missions simply harms the overall experience for a player and their team by forcing them to do something they don’t want to do/are not good at. I’m looking at you gamemode/support/combat XP missions…

Why not missions like:

Win a game
Play 3 matches
Etc.

Or hell, even:

Play a match of comp!

I believe I have nearly 20+ games of ranked played and I’m a silver master. My friend that I play with is a gold recruit. In the past week, we’ve had to wait 10+ minutes for a game. We are then matched with individuals who have no concept how to play their class properly, with people from all over the world who cannot (or are not willing) to communicate, and have awful pings.

My friend and I were trying to reach cobalt for the token, silly I know but we wanted it, however it is simply not worth the effort. When your ranking is solely based on whether or not your team won and your individualized performance means nothing, it can be very frustrating.

And this goes both ways – on my team or the opposing team. I’ve been in ranked games where our team rolls over the other and they concede. That is not what I’m looking for in a ‘ranked’ competitive game. I get better games, with people who know how to play and can communicate when I just join random servers.

Ranked needs a significant overhaul. I would rather have ranked tell me “Sorry, we can’t find a game” than place me in a terrible game.

Yep. I remember reading Shoe stating that they plan on keeping rank based mostly around team, not individual, performance, although some “slight changes” might be made.

I’ve ALWAYS done my best to defend SD and this game, but I’m really just getting disillusioned at this point. I mean, I understand that they’ve got a lot of the team forced to do Gears of War, but it’s really just the inability to understand their own game that’s upsetting.

It’s practically impossible to rank up in a reasonable amount of time with only 1 other person you’re allowed to party up with. It just is.

I can’t even communicate with randoms because the game likes to make my mic nearly-silent and then provide no options for adjusting its volume. That’s cool, especially because my mic works perfectly fine outside of DB!

I just don’t get it. Why are we waiting months for a single merc (a sniper, cause that’s what this game needs more of!) when that merc was already in the game? Why are balance changes so poor? Where’s the comp support?

They used to have play a match of comp, Nobody liked it so they removed it. Its like the play X execution rounds challenges we have now, Skip!

Just make stopwatch only available in competitive mode , make missions about stopwatch a little bit more rewarding in credits, then players wanting to play more than 20-30 min will play it.

No thanks, I’d like to play casual, thank you. And having the option to go 6-8 players on each team is nice.

I do not want to be forced to play competitive, especially not with the state it is in now, and always has been.

The missions are fine leave them alone. I have all the merc and often cant choose which to play those missions do it for me. And on top of that if you dont like a mission no one forces you to do it just cancel it if you dont like it.

I don’t want to force people go in ranked , but i think a lot of people don’t care playing ranked or not , and competitive community is what is missing to DB.

Ya, the toxicity produced by the balance and little kids isnt enough, we need more of it from people going tryhard and harassing everyone because they arent.

Back then there was a mission to play ranked but i didnt like it because i was new to the game and im sure noone would like to see me there. It got deleted for a reason and its good this way.

I dont mind going ranked but forcing people to it will just make it even moe unbearable because i can already foresee that people who dont care about ranked will just go afk/ do nothing good because they just need an game for mission. That will as stated above produce more toxicity about these players and will lead ranked further down spiral right into death.

You got some solid points there. Credit bonus means nothing when you have to que 10min plus. Better rewards for playing ranked might be the best solution for more players.

Yeah i agree, i tried to get into a ranked match and i waited for over 10 mins and nothing happened. I mean i played some rank when the changes to it first came out and it only took me about 2-4 mins to get into a match.

I also think there should be more of a reward for playing Ranked. such as to have more credits rewarded, or to even give cases if you get to the higher ranks, and even though cases would be given out the cobalts and gold and such would still be rare as only ranks such as gold rank or higher would get the cases.
