Please consider REAL competitive gamers on console

(Hyrage) #1

I can’t wait for Brink on May 10, but I really hope that you guys actually removed all sort of auto-aim or aim-assist on the 360 version or added an option to turn everything (everything…) OFF.

Games on console do not require auto-aim when the controls are properly tweaked, but for sure a game controller is different from a mouse + keyboard. Still, gamers shouldn’t be all forced to use any sort of auto-aim or aim assist or sticky aim or bullet magnetism.

Thx.

Have you seen anything in the videos that even looks remotely like aim-assist?

Maybe I’m blind, but I haven’t noticed it personally. Although, I also don’t know which videos are console and which are PC unless a button pops up I recognize, and most of those are Xbox.

You can, to the best of my knowledge, turn aim-assist off. However, it’s not off by default.

Consoles are not meant for competitive shooters, the controller isn’t built to be accurate in FPS games. Aim assist is a feature that you should use as it lets you aim. I’ve played Halo 2 for a really long time long ago, and I can tell you it’s impossible to play on a controller expecting to have good aim like you see professional PC players have, and that’s why aim assist exists, rather than make it extremely hard to aim for everybody it makes it puts every seasoned console player on par with each other. That being said there may not be room for anybody looking to be the best at aiming on consoles, if you want to be the best at aiming you have to buy the game for PC. From the looks of the gameplay so far the game does have a decent amount of aim assist.

He thinks he knows better. He’s got another thread started the same time where he basically came out and said that only noobs think that. So… I wouldn’t even bother arguing about it.

People who have played BRINK on consoles at events says the aim assists when using ADS is huge. It instantly snaps to the head all the time.

I hope for the console players that the huge aim assist is only for events, since they are…you know events.

(ed lolington) #8

i don’t see why console players hate aim-assist they’ve been using it since Goldeneye on the N64

(RAAAAAAAAAAGE) #9

Because some of us like skillfull gameplay. When i have ever used aim assist i didn’t feel any sense of achievment when i killed someone. I’ve always turned it off and always will. And even with it off I can do just as good.

(nincek) #10

I lol’d at seeing competitive and console in the same sentence.

(Crytiqal) #11

I thought the same thing

I like how he emphasizes the REAL competative gamers :stuck_out_tongue:

(Weapuh) #12

As opposed to those other (not real) competitive players that are all the rage?

(Otto) #13

I hate myself for falling into this, I was hoping this thread would have died long ago, but with all due respect I cant hold back any longer
Its like Lawnmower Racing

“It’s like Yah I want to race competitively, but i don’t want to do it in a actual go-kart/entry level vehicle, i want to spend the rest of my life on this 4wheel machine that was designed to cut grass, no I don’t want to drive something engineered from the ground up meant to race, I will modify this tractor, put some stickers on it and wear a helmet, that’s close enough right?”

If people want to do something competitively, stop fooling around with toys and get a entry level system. No one should ride with the training wheels on forever. I understand some people just are casual and cant justify buying a gaming pc, that’s fine, but if we are talking “competitively” that’s a different matter; realistically it doesn’t cost much these days. People who are like “I can’t afford to buy a computer to game on” alright fine PC’s are a little more money then current consoles, but we all remember when the PS3 was $700. Sure xbox has always been cheaper, but you have to pay monthly if you wanna go online right? Console games also always cost more then PC games. No mater what platform you get on these days the difference in prices are not as drastic as they used to be.

Sorry for the rant, It just really bugs me how the console takes away from the pc. Brink might have been made on the idect5 engine instead of 4, it might have had dx 10/11, It could have been optimized for PC… I’ll stop there,

I hope every one enjoys the game and gets all the features they want regardless of the platform. And I do respect those who do play with out an aim assistant on console, I’m just saying don’t stop there.

Resisted to post this 4 or 5 times before. Now that we already went there I might as well quote this for truth.

Well, you guys will have to grow up, mature a bit, learn a bit about competitive gaming with a gaming controller, because mouse + keyboard and game controller are just two different accessories with their own strengths. Like ‘‘leaning’’ would not be a good feature for a game controller.

Most people when they pick up a game controller can’t tolerate (EGO) how bad they actually are and also are too lazy to spend more time and efforts on actually learning how to increase their skills at aiming. People should learn to accept the playing without auto-aim with a game controller is how it should be. And, why do people even complain about not having any sort of auto-aim, it is equally hard for everyone, but adding auto-aim just brings problems on the table.

Nowadays, R6 Vegas 2 and Battlefield Bad Company 2 are two great references for console games that actually do not offer any sort of sticky aim or slows down the aim. You guys would barely see the difference betwwen a footage made with mouse + keyboard or game controller.

Turns made by using the controller are blunt, and the PC turns are sharp. Easy to spot.

(Hyrage) #17

In general I would say that’s most likely the case, however it really depends of how lazy the player actually is (lol).

The game controller is real good at swipe shots (lightning gun - Quake III, pistols, assault rifles, etc.) and feels great when the mouse really shines at following a target perfectly (lighting gun - Quake III).

But it doesn’t prevent the players from following a target with a game control or to swipe shot with a mouse. In fact, a player on console could look like that:

(RAAAAAAAAAAGE) #18

Not sure if its the same thing as sticky aim but in BFBC2 with the AA on its almost impossible to miss someone who is running perpendicular to you the AA follows them perfectly.

(Hyrage) #19

You should turn it off.

(RAAAAAAAAAAGE) #20

It is off when i play, but when i first got the game i didnt know there was AA.

And anyway the point i was making was you said BFBC2 is an example of a game with no sticky aim on consoles. I was merely pointing out that the AA in BFBC2 has what I would call sticky aim.
