Please add more color to the player models!

What quality settings are you using ? Though not optimal yet detecting enemies is ok for me at the moment, but I run the game with full quality …

(Ch4mpixx) #22

Playing with hight quality, the enemis are way to hard to disting from teamates. Sometimes I waste a full mag shooting a teamate before realise is not a ennemy. Some kind of force enemy model can be great.

(RasteRayzeR) #23

That would be a great option, like in Q3. Fully white or bright green clothes for enemies, normal for friendlies. I like it !

(BomBaKlaK) #24

whatever the quality, that’s still the same problem, we can’t see ****

(DB Genome editor) #25

Wouldn’t that effectively be a “legal” cheat? Not playing with the option would put you at a marked disadvantage so effectively it’s not an option anymore and you’d be forced to play with fugly models to remain competitive.

Also, that might put a dent in the skins revenue stream…

Well cg_forceenemymodel can’t be used in this game cause unlike quake, there is classes and you need to be able to differenciate each merc from another.
However it could be great for comp to have something like forceenemycolor or forceenemyskin to be able to see instantly what you are facing. But you are going to sell skins so I doubt it’ll be the case.

At least make the colors really saturated or something to have no doubts between allies/enemies.

(DB Genome editor) #28

I think it would be a very good idea in competitions to force each team to use matching skins on all their mercs. It’s the logical extension of having common skins available to all mercs: you can use them as team colors. As in any sport, it would help recognition for the players but also for the spectators. Team Decon vs Team Grid is a lot easier to follow than a mishmash of unrelated skins.

Unless skins are expensive, it shouldn’t be a big deal for serious comp players to buy “team uniforms” for their mercs, but it could also be a server setting for comp play that bypasses the normal customization (e.g. ForceTeamASkin = “Decon”, ForceTeamBSkin = “Grid”) with teams allowed to pick their favorite. And having high-level teams adopt specific skin sets may actually help boost skin sales (I want my mercs to wear Edge outfits because Team XYZ players do and they are badass :D).

Even better if they could make their own, user skins are a planned feature at some point I believe.

(slanir) #30

Quoting myself from another thread:

“Agree, player models should contrast more against the environment, I also think team differentiation could be improved a bit more. If they are going to introduce more skins and models it’ll become increasingly difficult to see which team a person belongs to.”

(PixelTwitch) #31

The issue with adding team colors is purely down to the fact you would then limit the options for the skins that are a big part of the payment model.

I would recommend making the clothing brighter (kinda like Brink)
maybe have a Left 4 Dead style outline appear on a character if within a certain distance from the cross hair also.

(BomBaKlaK) #32

Please, NO ! enough cluter …

(Bangtastic) #33

Thats for spec mode

(tokamak) #34

I think that means team-mates aren’t visible enough.

Distinguishing friend from foe should be solved on the friend side. Distinguishing players against the backdrop, well that depends on what type of game you’re going for. I believe that players who found a discrete spot to sit still in and surprise other players should receive an advantage. Anything that will make them stand out as much as moving players will ruin that layer of depth (as happened in Brink).

(BomBaKlaK) #35

Do some hats ! :penguin:

(k0k0nat) #36

Im sure not everyone likes them and I even heard people saying that “brightskins” are a kind of cheating.

But hey, UT Comp and other competitive mods really hit the nail. Would rather have an option for those typ of skins than the current ones :X

brighter enemy models/skins/parts of skin/contour are a must!!!
i sometimes literaly start shooting teammates =(
