Playing these custom maps is too much trouble

There are lots of good custom maps out for RtCW but it took a while to get to that stage. And ET maps need even more thought to make them work well with the new classes etc.

I think you will see a big improvment in customs as some of the bigger projects come through, with full campaigns instead of single maps.

I’m suprised as to why people are making all these conversion maps…are you out of ideas or what…::points to zeppelins thread::…though I guess they do take significantly less time to make since most of the brush work and textures are already there.

Some of them might have been good but they were only popular because they were fresh and new.

I want to bring out a few more points for custom maps. First of all there aren’t that many servers hosting them (well not many of the ones I like). I think this is primarily because the views about custom maps are kind of extreme. It’s either a server with all customs or no customs at all. I think that turns off some people because it can get frustrating to play one map after another that you don’t know and have no idea what you’re supposed to do. So we need more servers with custom maps and custom maps should be mixed with official ones. 1 official 1 custom…or 2 official 1 custom and so on in that patern.

Another point is on the people that get bored with official maps. Yes after some time you want something new but I think maps are different every time you play them because the teams are always different. The map gameplay can even change half way through. The nazi are really being owned and then some good people join their team and before you know it you’re cornered at your spawn. Every game you play is unique in its own way. Of course if you get bored with the map you get bored there’s nothing to argue there. However I’ve played railgun many many times. I never really liked that map so every time I play it I always hope it will end quickly. This one time though it so happened that both teams were really, really good and fighting started to get ridiculously fierce. The tug was moving at 1 meter per minute. First a nazi would be on it and he’d get killed in a sec, then an ally would jump and he would take it in the head too, then another nazi, then another ally, while at the same time massive firefights and airstrikes were going on around the whole thing for control of the little train. The nazi won with 2 min left in the game. Needless to say it was one of the best matches I’ve ever played with ET and it was with a map that I didn’t even like much. So the maps are good as long as the teams playing them are good and everyone knows what to do. This works out negatively for custom maps because no one knows what to do and the game gets annoying very quickly. However people are learing.

im just not a big fan of custom maps. ive liked some of them but not alot of them mainly because i just thought they were poorly designed and not very well thought out. but some of them i did like and still play today, but once again even the ones i do like arnt perfect. not to say that the original 6 are or anything its juyst i perfer all of them(except battery) over most of the custom maps. and i have noticed that servers are kinda one way or another with customs. and they only run a certain one until a new one comes out and then everyone trues that one and so on and si forth. but i think its a good way to get maps out there though. i dunno, im ranting. all i call here to say was that i dont like most of the custom maps and look where i am now!!! :disgust: damn rants!!![/quote]

Some of them I like, like rhine bridge, but has a little too much advantage for axis and snipers, but still fun to play. Desert temple i like, but spawns are a little strange. It is funny when allies get gold and run to where the tank WILL be but isn’t yet, and win!!
One I hate was a poison gas to be stolen by axis to get it to a plane. One thing that defied logic was the fact a tank and barriers were all blocking the runway, but axis won if they got the gas??? Of course, getting the gas was almost impossible with only two ways to get there, with allies spawning on top of it. It had buildings with no purpose and hills that did not look normal. It would be better, if axis escorts a tanker to plane deal instead, and NO spawns directly on objectives. I think that ruins a map the most, having a spawn at the objective itself…not fun at all. None of the offical maps do that.
