Is the player base going down? All the decent experienced people I play with are leaving to other games (Overwatch or Lawbreakers).
Player Base
Seems to be going as normal right now. Not on any large increase/decrease afaik.
Also, Lawbreakers is currently in closed Alpha. They just had an Alpha weekend for two days. Nobody can switch to that game yet because they don’t have a persistent alpha/beta up yet.
As far as Overwatch goes, we have actually seen an increase in players since it released, oddly enough. Although that doesn’t say anything about your friends who left.
People play different games all the time. Overwatch has a lot of hype behind it since it’s Blizzard and it’s essentially Team Fortress 3. Lawbreakers is only in closed alpha and will only occasionally have servers open and is undergoing massive changes in a lot of areas between builds. And only a few thousand people even have access to LB.
And according to the unique player count DB’s player base hasn’t been impacted at all. So your friends are doing what people do…they try out other games. Some stay with the new game and some come back and some play multiple games (like me). That’s kind of the nature of things.
I can understand that there are a lot of new players, but what about player retention. After you get all the mercs there is nothing to do, except skins. Most of the people I pug with are experienced players. There is a cup coming up and the NA division has no sign ups.
If there were no pugs or cups, I’d be done too. Also why is this called a highly competitive server by nexon?
Shooter usually end up having not much to farm for except maybe cosmetics. If there would be things beside cosmetics to farm for, it would put new players in an even bigger disadvantage against veterans.
I dont mind that there isnt much to farm for in shooter because i play DB when i feel like playing it for the game(play) itself, not to farm something/towards an goal like in e.g. RPG’s.
This results in me playing sometimes a lot and sometimes not a single minute for days. As long as i enjoy playing it, i will play it. If someday i will no more enjoy it, i will quit it without a second thought because playing a game which isnt fun, defies the sole purpose of a game.
TF2 wasnt a f2p too at the release.
when they realize th only way to improve the playerbase is to go free, they will go free

You can play the game. Collecting things isn’t the only reason to play a game or even the primary reason. Competitive events are still happening and will most likely get a huge boost in the future when players are allowed to create their own communities/forums via renting their own servers that they can run their own way. Virtually all real competitive pools are fed this way.
DB hasn’t been able to support a competitive community since it opened up. That’s part of why I’ve never seriously competed despite my rather lengthy history of doing so in other games. I could see the writing on the wall and have been voicing my concern/opinion for a very long time now. That whole blow-up with tons of teams at the start was going to fail and fail hard…which happened. Now things have been limping along for a while now with some pretty great people trying to keep something going (DBN people).
However, it won’t be such a struggle for those people in the future. I see a lot of those issues being resolved pretty soon as one of the big features that seriously affects retention rate is going to finally be available. And the queue system, assuming it gets working correctly, will fix some of the perceived balance issues since due to the much larger pool of players that will be used to balance games. It would also be nice if either SD or Nexon did some kind of built-in or company supported league like a ton of devs/publishers do now. Something they can easily market to generate interest.
If all of these things get put into place then the game can go from being a daily grinder to being a legit competitive game that has good support which will lead to longer retention. That’s my hopes anyway. Whether or not it comes to pass is up to the devs to get things implemented right and us players to do what we can to support.

Or you play Legend of Titan

steam stats show the game is averaging 4-5k players a day, which is in the top 100 so not too bad.
1,617 current players, 3,667 highest peak for today for Dirty Bomb… kinda seems low, but it is the start of the week.
