Play Experience Improvement Requests

(Cottc Cid) #1

I hope this is a better place to post than the tech support forums, but there are a couple of things that have been bothering me, and should be relatively* simple to fix.

1. Make “Sense of Perspective” Mouselook
When we are capturing, we already have to hold down the F key. This means we have to pull our middle finger off of W if we want to rotate with D. Since your mouse hand is unoccupied while capturing, why not make it mouse look?

2. Add Internet Server Filters
I can’t tell you the number of times I have tried to join a game and been rejected because “Your rank is too high”. I cannot find an option that sorts by rank, or limits me from joining games that are below me, or even states the rank requirements of a game. Being able to reject empty/full/passworded games would also be awesome. And I can’t figure out how to favorite servers. Maybe that is just me.

3. Don’t make any character appearance choices permanent.
Are tattoos permanent for flavor reasons only? Because the net effect of that is for me to not want to have any, in case I change my mind later. I don’t see what this adds.

4. Allow players to change their body type without exiting from a server.
Preferably, I would like to see the option to change body type in the weapon select screen. I don’t feel that changing body types mid round is unbalanced, but what if, for example, you find that you need some suppression capabilities, and no one in the game is a heavy? You can’t suppress much with an assault rifle.

Those are the important changes. After about 8 hours of playing, the following impressions also bother me, but they are balance opinion, which is always subjective.

1. Heavy body types are pretty useless.
All the heavy weapons are awful. Just awful. The grenade launcher needs to shoot farther and explode on contact, the shotgun should be able to one- or two-shot people (a close range weapon on the slowest character?) and the machine guns couldn’t hit a barn if the barn was covered in magnets. Compared to the laser-like accuracy of SMG’s, I would rather run around with them than a chaingun that spins up and can still miss someone 10 feet away.

2. SMG’s are too good.
SMG’s are great. Unload a clip, and you can kill one guy, maybe two. A little good maybe, but fine without any changes. Unfortunately, it makes every other weapon pale in comparison. I have tried messing around with assault rifles, but the greater recoil and lower ammo count makes them feel inferior. You can see my thoughts on heavy weapons above. That being the case, why would I ever want to do anything besides dual-wielding SMGs?

3. The Operator’s place needs to be seriously examined.
I get that he is supposed to run around solo, but Brink is a team game. It’s like serving ice cream with fudge, nuts, whipped cream, and avocado. Avocado is good, it just doesn’t fit. As the only class without a buff, and a natural tendency to get away from the high scoring areas like guarding, the only reason to play an operative (Note: I am only rank 3, so I haven’t yet reached the end game) is to hack stuff. Maybe he gets more useful later, but if he isn’t good in the early game, why are people going to want to practice before they reach the end game, and once there, why would they give him a shot?

*not a programmer.

I play the Operative and am always in the top 3 for experience, not only on my team, but overall.

I suspect SD are rightly going to work on squashing all the major/critical bugs first but when they do get around to the wishlist, yeah I’d have to agree 1,000% that this is top of my list (without the ability to use the mouse to freelook, “Sense of Perspective” becomes essentially useless to me).

I’d be quite happy just to have a separate face/body tattoo for Security and Resistance factions, but it’s not a deal-breaker; I would have been more annoyed if you unlocked tattoos as your character levelled up.

Caltrops ftw!

(FireWorks) #4

I agree with these two.
Sense of perspective is too me even worse then the normal way.
My QW style lived from quickly changing classes & spawnpoints and adapting to situations if needed. I miss that a little here:oppressor: But hey new game, new style:stroggtapir:

(KaZuK) #5

I haven’t played a heavy, but i’ve been against some using the machine gun and they were able to drop me in less than half a second at medium range with it. I should probably try them out, but just from that experience they seemed to be very useful.

I think SMGs should have less ammo and assault rifles more, i instantly lose all my ammo on my AR, but when i bring out my smg, it just feels like i can gun down so many people and ammo isn’t a problem.

(sereNADE) #6

i want to echo the call for switching body types DURING MAPS!!

(fearlessfox) #7

My favourite gun in the game is an AR, the Euston. Couple it with the COGA scope and the thing is a beast. I take an SMG as back up, but this thing is /always/ my primary.

I agree with SoP; I’m not having the difficulty you seem to be (my keys are differently bound), but it really isn’t very intuitive.

Body switching during maps I see no problem with, and changing tattoos should be allowed.

(Norb) #8

wouldnt work for many reasons, 1 everyone would max out a medic a soldier an engie and a op’s to level 20 then switch between them everytime they switched to either class

(Codine) #9

Then whats the difference for a person leaving the game then switching it and rejoining? It’s just time consuming and boggles me why it was never put into the game at the start.

(Norb) #10

chances are they wouldnt get back in with it being drop in and out servers (360) just makes the game abit boring dont you think having 4 different characters you switch between when you need a certain class, pick your class or 2 classes for one character and switch between thhe classes that you choose mine are medic and engie’s I think it works much better like this and would just get anoying if everyone then had a medic a soldier etc all with every mod and add on only having a few perks per person or class makes the game intresting and means each game is different

:stroggtapir:

…have some of my own points if that’s okay  judging by the thread title<

I guess we all know a couple of maps have no sound… Howerver I haven’t seen a post here.
The airplane map on both sides, and the recue prisoner from the high security facility (not the poisoned dude though, the other one) on the rebel side.

Joining servers with friends I have seen mentioned here, just saying, lobbies would be cool.

On that note, server filters could include checkboxes rather than type stuff in, because I don’t even know what the star tab is, and would be nice to have that little extra.

end of stuff that really grinded my gears during first day of play

Little bit annoying the tooltips coming up in weapon customisation just block the weapon for me… so if the can go on longer delay or toggle off option.

Initial deployment into a map requires you to be very speedy on the clicking out of the movies, and have quick map loading. If the initial spawn was about 5 seconds later it would be calmer for the first push when you wanna meet the other team half way and be part of the first battle in the game.

Body types aren’t characters and you SHOULD be able to switch characters during warm up.

The entire list is my list too.

I only really agree with number 4 after playing for 2 days…

I’ve made a light character as an operator and have been making some serious havoc :stuck_out_tongue:

I kinda get what you mean about 1 & 2 but doesnt really spoil the game for me

(Inofor) #15

I don’t play operative all the time, but I’ve had some pretty good success being heavy operative with the big shotgun and Gerund. That being said, I’m only rank 3 and the game is new so people seem to be having trouble finding disguised enemies blending among them. I’m pretty sure the only times I’ve been found have been by the guy I’m disguised as.

(Charles Atlas) #16

CAN agree with changing anything during warm up, but not during the game, especially vs. other than everything that’s already been said, especially in the thread that’s dedicated to the issue of switching characters during the game, there’s the irritating pattern of people doing this to consider.

Whats the point of trying to jump out of a game every time the objective switches just so you can have a little extra bonus thing to use on the next objective. The games well made in this department, and everybody seems to be against turning this into CoD or Battlefield. That’s what would happen. You pretty much destroy any RPG element by allowing this **** to happen.

There should be more of a penalty for people who want to jump out of a game to jump back in as a different character. You totally destroy everything the devs worked for with the leveling and abilities system.

Could agree with the body type change maybe…but I don’t know why that’s so important to people. Just play what you like
