[drupal=785]Play Brink at insomnia42 This Weekend![/drupal]

Insomnia42, the latest of Multiplay’s hugely popular LAN parties here in the UK, is just around the corner and Brink will be there for you to play. The Brink action kicks off on Saturday at 4 PM and will run for three hours, allowing you to get some play time in before the game is officially released on May 13. Mildly related, there are also rumors of a contingent of Splash Damage folk infiltrating the event for a copious amount of gaming - if you spot one of us, don’t hesitate to say hello!
Insomnia42 takes place from 22 - 25 April 2011 at Newbury Racecourse in Newbury, Berkshire. For more information, check out the Insomnia website.

Version of the game?

From the site:

Get your hands on the unreleased, exclusive insomnia42 preview of Brink; the next gen, AAA shooter from Bethesda & Splash Damage! Whether you are a spectator or an event participant, you will be able to play the exclusive Xbox360 version of Brink, between 4pm and 7pm on Saturday 23rd April 2011 in the exhibition hall!

Even on a PC LAN they demonstrate the console version …

Worrying isn’t it, going the same way as the Call of Duty series

Did no one do any research for you? Its a competitive event, probably 75% if not more of the people attending are there for the PC CSS/TF2/PCCOD4 tournament. There are very very few visitors compared with attendees. The participants are the hardcore of the hardcore competitive PC gamers and generally hold strong negative views on console gaming.

By demonstrating a console version of the game you are alienating them as they will shrug the game off as a console game ported onto PC (the shift associated with the transition from COD4 to MW2). This will then ripple through their respective competitive game of choices coverage and community sites.

Sorry to seem hostile or aggressive but after all the bad press the COD series has got for doing this I hoped you would do something like take a PC competitive format of the game to the event which would have done fantastic things for you within the competitive community.

Just to pre-empt unnecessary speculation etc: This was put together on very short notice, so we had to pick hardware that was readily available and able to go up to the event right away. Consoles lend themselves well to that, whereas we don’t have a cupboard full of spare gaming PCs ready to go places at a moment’s notice. Between having the game there on Xbox and not having it there at all, the choice was pretty easy…

Also, you’d be surprised how much console gaming there is at the i-series events.

Interesting. Also, when should I expect a email regarding plane/hotel reservations? Thanks a head of time.

I wouldn’t say there is much console gaming at i-series at all outside of Halo.

Ah, fair enough I guess, ignore my post. Now care to answer my thread on competitive features while your lurking? http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24033

That makes sense, but it’s still a missed oppertunity to draw competitive players from other PC games towards BRINK.

The few times I’ve attended the Iseries I barely noticed any console gaming, but maybe that has changed the past year?

(Arcadizz1e) #12

Console gaming has decreased in the last year from my observations. But I guess I could be very wrong, they could be hiding it all somewhere.

(Wepohn) #13

It was relatively popular not so long ago for the European teams to play some Halo 3 under MLG settings and get some decent lan practice before heading over to North America.

Edit: I was popular to it.

(amazinglarry) #14

Can we please relocate this to Massachusetts? Also, bring computers.

(badman) #15

You had your fun already, Larry!

(mortis) #16

No love for me in the San Francisco Bay Area :frowning:

I even have a spare computer to use as a ded server, so the next Brink PC LAN party is at my place. Belgian beverages all around! And then I will roll your entire crew on Street Fighter 2!

(DarkangelUK) #17

Hey, I’m in a neighboring country and they haven’t shown Brink here! Scandalous I tell you!

(Wepohn) #18

A question, i-series usually broadcast the event. Will they be allowed to broadcast Brink footage?

(Herandar) #19

Aww, poor baby only gets to go Comicon every year.

Try living in a real cultural wasteland.

(Whydmer) #20

Yeah, but I still love Arizona for some reason…
