Place Trinkets on Surfaces?

(Shinywindow) #1

Dirty Bomb’s trinkets are underutilised, only being seen via menus, spectating, and small glimpses.
I’d love to see trinkets acting like sprays – give a chance to show off what you got.

Notes:

  • Trinket placement is just like using a spray in TF2, Counter Strike, L4D and even Overwatch.
  • Because trinkets would be utilised more, their value would increase.
  • Like a dog peeing on a tree, you could mark your territory, putting trinkets on MGs, EV’s, and objective cases.
  • Trinkets can also be automatically placed on every pack, station, turret, bomb, and grenade you use.
  • This way you can finally tell whose stuff belongs to who.
  • Trinkets are small enough to not distract anybody.
  • Don’t like a trinket? Shoot, stab, and blow it up. Trinket wars.

Trinket Effects:

  • Trinkets could have effects when placed on walls and some surfaces.
  • Lantern – Brightens up when you get closer, dims when you’re far away.
  • Graffiti Bite – Graffiti spray of either your name or the Merc you’re playing. Maybe you can upload a custom spray?
  • Ranked Trinkets – Hologram of your name, icon, and current K/D/A/R?

Does this sound okay? It’s a 4am idea and someone might have already come up with it.

Or maybe ability to attach multiple trinkets? Like my cellphone years ago :’)

Also yes, trinkets should be a bit bigger to show off more

Also this, I want my Coalsplitter to shine menacingly

I still really hate the fact that we just shove frozen/possessed/plain metamorphic carbon rocks to our guns but yeah at least give them a purpose other than just dangling down like a fricking limp dic-

(GatoCommodore) #4

i still wanna 3-5 trinkets on my gun so i can make my own greeen gold xmas tree.

(BerylRdm) #5

The only trinket I somehow care is ranked trinket - and it’s not even visible on the gun  So, maybe, at least, make them visible.

This is the best thing I’ve ever heard of. I want this in the game.

So petty and irrelevant but at the same time it would totally fit the whimsical attitude that the merc taunts convey.

Given that I hate sprays and the like in CS and other games, I’ve gotta say this doesn’t sound like my sort of thing. I already get annoyed at my team enough when they can’t focus an objective… I can only see that getting worse with things like placing trinkets.

What’s so bad about sprays though?

What’s so bad about sprays though?[/quote]

Whats so good about them?

For a serious answer though. When things like this are given to the community it is always abused in some way. CS for example, you can make some pretty creative/distracting/inappropriate/offensive/abusive sprays and does it add anything of real value to the game play? Will you play the game more because you can spray nonsense on a wall? Do you get more value in that?

If DB added such a thing. They would also have to provide limits… how many trinkets can you place? How often? Where can you place them? At least though, they wouldn’t have to worry about having offensive or inappropriate trinkets as they would be made by them.

Without limits, people would just act like morons and place them everywhere they walk, the map would be littered in trinkets because… that’s fun for some reason?

I just can’t think of a single good reason to add this other than… “it would be funny for like… 2 matches”

I don’t understand how when people ask to have one or two “melee only” servers added to be utilized only by people who want to play melee only, they get hammered with disagrees… even though it doesn’t effect anyone not wanting to play on those servers and it would be super easy to implement.

But something like this which would effect all games (and not in a positive way if you ask me) its gets all likes and agrees even though it would be a lot of work to program, bug test and implement.

I’ve never played CS:GO, but I was thinking of a similar system to Overwatch, where the old trinket would just be removed if you placed another. It’s such a minor aspect that no one really even notices it.

Although I think it would be better to use spray decals for trinkets rather than the actual trinket. That way it’s basically the same as programming a soot mark with a different image and doesn’t look like a keychain stuck to a wall.

(Brycko) #11

Sprays in general would be really cool, especially with all that fanart out there. We already have that banksy graffiti in places on the maps, so it should work…

@SnakekillerX has some good points though.

(K1X455) #12

How about an audio thingy like jingling bells, barking dogeys, rattling bones instead of something visual?

(Chilled Sanity) #13

Baha men trinkets confirmed

Edit:All the sudden I have a feeling that no one will get this joke

(Jus2pomme) #14

We don’t need this now… They have more important thing to do. But well this is not a bad idea

(Press E) #15

Higher priority projects don’t mean we can’t talk about other things. Obviously I’d rather have dockyard than keychains stuck to walls, but eh.

(KUST__LunarTM) #16

I haven’t personally played CS:GO, but like @STARRYSOCK mentioned, Overwatch does have a spray system that works pretty well and doesn’t distract from the game, but on the other hand there are the sprays in TF2 that I know very well can distract from a game. Perhaps what it boils down to is the content of the sprays?

I would love to see a way to publicly show off our trinkets aside from the brief kill feed icon for some of the trinkets, but I do have the same worries as @SnakekillerX in that it shouldn’t turn into some kind of meta-game that takes away from the main game.

(Press E) #17

I agree. I personally think sprays similar to Overwatch would be best, anything else and you start getting players who are obsessed with things, like hats in TF2.

(BlackboltLW) #18

We definitely need a spray mechanic tho

I mean as a merc, who doesn’t want to trash radioactive London

I wouldn’t mind an offline single player mode where you can run around on the map and spray to your heart’s content. Using any childish, obscene, immature or “badass” image you like. And then make a youtube video about it and show off to your friends.

Just charge 10€ to unlock this mode and let the cool crowd financially support the game.
