Ok, I have a problem. I am getting ready to release this map, but when I save it in a .zip as a .pk3 the file gets saved as a .zip file instead of a .pk3 file (e.g. breakout.pk3.zip) … how can this be fixed?
.pk3/.zip
I think you can also use quotation marks in the name field.
For example: “mymap.pk3” (with the quotation marks)
Not sure if this works.
I tried both of these things, neither work.
Another thing is that I don’t have WinZip on this computer – all .zip files open up into a folder. Maybe getting WinZip will help… but I’m not sure how.
EDIT: Ok, solved it… I opened the .zip file in notepad, then saved it with the quotes (“breakout.pk3”).
Dodgy. o_O
www.winzip.com. Download trial, itll last forever… just with a silly popup. NO ADWARE and such afaik.
I’m becoming thoroughly frustrated by this. I’vecompleted the map, zipped it neatly up in a pk3 file, and it’s still not showing up on the menu. Here’s a list of everything in the pk3 file. I took a look at Drakir’s image of how a pk3 should look and AFAIK this is correct.
I have 3 folders:
maps --> breakout.bsp; breakout.objdata; breakout.script; breakout_tracemap.tga;
breakout (in “maps” folder) --> lm_0000.tga; lm_0001.tga
scripts --> breakout.arena
The pk3 is available for d/l here if you think you can solve the problem… maybe it’ll show up on your menu but not mine…
I think it’s not a pk3.
Get errors if I try to open it.
Easiest thing:
zip you data to a zip file
then rename the zip file to pk3
Without using notepad!!!
You need to preserve folder names when you zip it up.
$ unzip -l breakout.pk3
Archive: breakout.pk3
Length Date Time Name
-------- ---- ---- ----
884 03-01-04 22:01 breakout.arena
960 03-01-04 21:58 breakout.objdata
797 02-29-04 11:07 breakout.script
687540 03-02-04 10:29 breakout.bsp
262188 03-01-04 20:55 breakout_tracemap.tga
196626 03-02-04 10:29 lm_0000.tga
786450 03-02-04 10:29 lm_0001.tga
-------- -------
1935445 7 files
i.e. breakout.bsp should be maps/breakout.bsp

Before I was manually adding them and it wouldn’t let me keep the folder name, but now I’ve just dragged the entire folder into the pk3 file, so we’ll see what happens this time.
I’ve packed it for you.
Do you have email?
EDIT:
I’ve send it to your hotmail address.
That one that is in your profile under MSNM.
EDIT2:
Just dl it.
And it works except the command map.
You need a shader for this to work.
Thanks, you’re getting credit for that.
Um, I’m not sure which texture is missing though. I thought I only used SD ones…
remember
if u save something, with something else, you should have ‘All File Types (.)’ selected in the file type field of thesave dialog.
This will stop the default ‘.xxx’ being amended to the file.
