Ping Limits?

(FalseLumpy) #1

Don’t you just love when you’re running to cover, low health, and right as you turn the corner and take cover, your little toe gets gibbed through a brick wall by that Sawbonez with 200 ping, 50 kilometers away from you, with his pistol? Or when that level 7 Rhino with 450 ping demolishes your whole team by aiming his minigun at the ceiling above you. Maybe even that nade that’s a whole football stadium away from you but manages to blow you to bits anyways, the invisible proxy mines, and even the airstrikes that kill you just because you looked at them. Of course you don’t. Splash Damage ping limits please. Before the Ping Warriors take over our lands with their pirated Mediacom internet, and their dial-up routers.

To combat the Ping Warrior invasion, perhaps this may help: You are locked out of a server if your ping is X amount when attempting to connect, if your ping exceeds X amount for X amount of minutes while in the match, you will be removed.

Personally, I think even anything over 120 is high enough to be considered a hindrance, though not everyone has the absolute best internet in the world even when playing on servers close to their location. So maybe 200 is a fair input for X. For the minute amount possibly something like 2.30 - 3 minutes is a fair enough amount of time to let their ping stabilize if it’s just a random temporary ping spike.

Please, feel free to gut me like a fish and place my head on a pike while tying my dismembered body to a lamppost with my small intestine and maybe even sowing my hands onto my legs and my feet to my arms. I love getting mutilated by keyboard warriors and ping warriors alike. But seriously feedback that doesn’t involve “ur fuqqing retardd kid” is welcome, though variations are welcome too, I do like creativity…

Doesn’t high ping work both ways? Like the guy who is lagging can also be killed by things he hasn’t seen?

(FalseLumpy) #3

Hmm… HMMM… I need to phrase this dramatically hold on.

How do you go to bed at night, knowing that someone out there, has high ping teammates who are rushing into groups of enemies blindly, not even knowing they’re there? Trying to shoot at the afterimage of a proxy who is already dead, teleporting into your vision and absorbing the shots that could’ve killed the person arming the C4, and trying to knife their teammates, thinking they’re enemies, because they’re using the Swiss Red skin. Oh right, you don’t sleep, too busy grinding for that trade-up, only to get enigma, extra supplies, and quick draw on Arty, you don’t even play Arty. Please stop this madness at WWW.InsertEdgyJoke.com , shit is that a real website? Someone should test that.

Pings do not affect much to be hinderance. Modern games have ping compensation. Some people are physically too far from any of the servers, so they cant do much with any ISP. So making a ping limit would not allow those people to play. Lag and teleport can happen even in low ping, it is due to low bandwidth so the game data to be sent is queued causing lag and teleports.

Pft you could at least give me a lol, I just want a profile picture, I need to make a living by making shit arguments okay.

I can sleep at night because it’s just a game?

Seriously, I have never experienced the kind of lag you are describing though.
I tent to agree more with PlatinumCLAW. I feel like DB covers lag well enough for my own experience. I think I’ve only had one instance where the game seemed to hang and I was thrown into a completely different part of the map. But that only happened once and I honestly thought my PC was crashing.

First off, I was exaggerating my way of presenting that as a joke pls. The reason i made this post was because i just got in multiple games with players with 300-500 ping. If you want screenshots I’d be happy to oblige.

It depends on the lag compensation or if any client/server prediction decides how the kill/damage turns out.

But in my experience people with a worse connection/ping in this game have always been favored. I know this because when I play in EU servers I get a lot of kills I shouldn’t.

still it’s nowhere near as bad as Overwatch 20 tick servers with garbage favor the Shooter client side prediction BS. yeah Blizzard lets do all that crap on ranked a competitive format it can’t be that bad… “plays ranked with friends” yeah ok ranked in OW is cancer.

It is because this game is free to play so the servers are bad.

When I play overwatch I wont get killed from the other side of the map. Or I wont lag every 5 minutes.

you wont lag every 5 min unless it’s on your ISP’s side but the reason it looks so smooth is because of the client server prediction, trust me under the hood it’s smoke and mirrors and expect to get killed A Lot! while being a good distance behind cover.

Thus all of the kills/deaths in that game are essentially a coin flip to whether a player lives, dies or gets the kill.

many gamers agree 20 tick servers are completely unacceptable for a competitive format.

but after saying all that I am curious and would like to know the tickrate of DB’s servers.

Around 40.
My concern though, I barely understand why there’s such ping allowance in this game. You can’t have per say high ping tolerance + high tickrates at the same time. I honestly don’t think anyone would have over 150ms to their closest region server, if they took time to understand what is going on with their broadband (torrent uploads, smart phone doing updates or whatever).
FYI, the main reason back in the old days was to allow intercontinental gaming. In alpha that was an obvious useful tool as we were not enough to play on the game simultaneously in every region at that time. Later on, people thought it was a good idea to allow comp gaming EU against USA. Still, both can be disputed now… I know UE3 capabilities if you give good tickrates to server, and it does improve the experience by a good margin. I do hope they’ll allow fiddling with servers when community servers appear…

DB runs on 60Hz tickrate. https://www.reddit.com/r/Dirtybomb/comments/4nfkne/server_tick_rate/d43i756
