Yes, you can pick up any weapon, if your body type allows it. Iam also pretty sure, that you can pick up the exclusive guns.
When you pick up a gun, you only get the ammo that is in the current clip of the gun.
IE, it’s either a desperate measure or a well orchestrated team-effort (to get you resupplied and all). Not something you can do on a whim.
That is, if you have that Scavenger ability equipped in your slot.
Edit: Oh, must have read it wrong. So, anyone can pick up ammo off dead bodies but it’s the Soldiers who can use it to refill the supply meter with the Scavenger ability.
The Soldier’s Scavenge ability lets you refill your Supply meter by interacting with dead enemies - picking up items isn’t part of it.
But they did it in the pre-rendered video.
No, but I understand. The matches you’re placed in depend on your level. So everyone else in the game will probably have the same weapons unlocked that you do. And then there’s the command post to change with anyways. It sounds like it would be a fun feature for non-tiered games though. Join as a new character and be allowed to obtain a higher level guy’s gun on that spawn. But it may not work that way since those guns are probably heavy only, which wouldn’t be accessible to the character yet.

The guns are unlocked via challenges, which essentially is another name for tutorials.
So not allowing players to pick up weapons they havent unlocked, forces players to learn the basics of the game, if they want access to them.
Well that’s a new development. Both ways are interesting. I think back then I leaned towards not allowing players to use weapons as well you know, making decisions more important and all.
It would be open to exploits as well, a high ranked player could ‘distribute’ highly specialised weapons among several players of his team.
It’s not just me, is it? This is a reversal of what was stated a long time ago, right? It was stated before that you could pick up other guns, but there would be very little ammo in them. I’m not upset or complaining, I’m just trying to confirm that I’m not losing my mind.
in the one E3 video a thing pops up that says “press x to pick up blah” or something, so i assume it was there and then they changed it, you could still be losing your mind though
Yeah, weapon pick-ups was one of the things we’d played around with a couple of months ago, but they didn’t work out for a variety of reasons and were removed from the game.
This will also encourage team work too. If you are low on ammo, you need to either get to a command post, or get to a soldier.
Speaking of which if you are low on ammo, does a command post automatically restock your ammo? Or do you have to choose a new weapon load-out or simply rechoose the one you are using, but now you are full up on ammo? How does that work?
I’m fine without picking up guns. That is one of those design that doesn’t make a game better or worse. In my opinion it’s a good choice for a game focusing on teamplay.
Wouldn’t be different from having low-ammo guns lying around. Actually that option would encourage more teamwork as you’d want your better-fitting gun refilled.
The entire reasoning for leaving it is decision-making, which is good.
Thanks Badman! I’d just like SD to know that I’d be fascinated to hear a list of many of the ideas for this game that didn’t make it into the final product and the rationale/arguments behind the cutting of them. After the game is released, of course.
I personally think that’s good and it adds more of that personal touch to your characters. Your weapon is your weapon.
