Physics failed?

After searching on this forum I found a couple threads about ragdoll animations. These topics got my attention, because players were complaining about the unnatural dead animations in Crysis2. E.g. when you fragged a enemy close enough to a wall with the right angle it will look like he’s alive and standing/crouching (death but leaning with whole/half body at wall).
Isn’t it embarrasing when you were about to kill a enemy and realised you were shooting at a corpse?!

I’ve noticed something similar in the following video and marked the character with a triangle. There’s no way you will stay in that position when you’re death

Physics failed? Shape recognition failed

Hmm, maybe the perspective is just a little weird and his resting on the thing behind him.

PS: It’s a rectangle. :stuck_out_tongue:

Great! My browser crashed upon trying to log in and now I am late to pointing out the rectangle/triangle mix-up.

(Shadedluck) #5

I’m pretty sure hes leaning on the construction thing behind him. Also, it might just be the video showing it awkwardly.

(Herandar) #6

Sure it can. Heavy body armor and a supply filled backpack + gravity makes that entirely possible.

At the very least it’s proof of ragdolls for all the <infraction earning adjective>s who are upset about lack of them.

ragdolls lose their charm when only applied after the body already lies on the ground…
see, in brink you will always lie on the ground before you die, always.

the point of ragdolls is to have non-repetitive deaths.
they react to their surroundings… to how close they are to the killer, where they get shot etc all in a physical way.

Crysis2 has simple deathanimations just like we had in counter strike for years already…
you shoot someones head and the animation kicks in, and it’s not influenced by anything.
the Pirouette they make when they die will always look the same, it doesnt matter if the angle you shot him at is different.
no physics applied.

it’s the same in brink, even more extreme considering the enemies always have to land on their back… this limits the number of possible death animation and completely forbids the use of ragdolls.

I couldn’t care less about ragdolls when they just kick in after the action is done…
there wont be any interaction between body and physics anymore… he already lies on his back, forces were already applied, nothing happens.

Only grenades exploding near corpses will do something…
wich is probably the reason for OP’s screenshot.

implementing (proper)ragdolls now also wouldnt do it any justice as it looks like splash damage hasnt modified the ragdoll system, they pretty much look like the stiff bad looking ragdolls we had in doom3/quake4.

I want halflife2 ragdolls, by far the most awesome ragdolls atm.
all to late, we will get the “falling on the back” animation and that’s it.
and even if it’s not a reason to not buy the game for me, it will be for many others.
it looks poor and especially casual gaming websites will point it out as a negative thing, regardless of the reasons for its implications…
mark my words.

Who gives a crap! I’d rather have good movement and good hip fire shooting with no ohk! Finally a game that will take some skill and people are worried about rag dolls?!

(Nail) #10

developers use insane ragdolls (Bulletstorm) to cover up insufficient gameplay, people are getting used to it

(MatthiasK75) #11

maybe hes a muslim, and its 3 o’clock. you dont know, who are you to judge? we are fighting over resources not beliefs!

yeah im just kidding of course, i kind of like it though, something funny to lul at before killing urybodeh

(Nail) #12

meh, it’s a yoga position, always best to limber up before battle

(Breo) #13

oops sry idk why I typed triangle :s

I think it’s a lightweight character with heavies clothes

(Linsolv) #14

He’s a medium character wearing medium clothes, though they are a little baggy.

(Dormamu) #15

Is a statue!
or… a VIP resistance escort mission  you need to heal him to make him get up on his feet!

(amazinglarry) #16

Judging by the screenshot it could almost be a ‘mid death’ sequence. You know, falling to the knees, then slowly falling over. In that case, it’d be fine. I haven’t actually looked for it in the video though.

(Slade05) #17

Or he`s just falling on his face.

(MatthiasK75) #18

its from a dev diary video, so just go watch it and see if he falls, if not? oh well its a game that will revolutionize the fps, i dont feel the need to nitpick if a character accidentally got stuck that one time

(trigg3r) #19

yeah, it’s from the “minds on the brink” developer diary video.

ppl are just trying too hard to find reasons to complain about the game imo

(DarkSlayer54) #20

Eh, I think it’s simply too awesome. It might blow my mind, and I think we should all stay away from it. :stuck_out_tongue:
