ragdolls lose their charm when only applied after the body already lies on the ground…
see, in brink you will always lie on the ground before you die, always.
the point of ragdolls is to have non-repetitive deaths.
they react to their surroundings… to how close they are to the killer, where they get shot etc all in a physical way.
Crysis2 has simple deathanimations just like we had in counter strike for years already…
you shoot someones head and the animation kicks in, and it’s not influenced by anything.
the Pirouette they make when they die will always look the same, it doesnt matter if the angle you shot him at is different.
no physics applied.
it’s the same in brink, even more extreme considering the enemies always have to land on their back… this limits the number of possible death animation and completely forbids the use of ragdolls.
I couldn’t care less about ragdolls when they just kick in after the action is done…
there wont be any interaction between body and physics anymore… he already lies on his back, forces were already applied, nothing happens.
Only grenades exploding near corpses will do something…
wich is probably the reason for OP’s screenshot.
implementing (proper)ragdolls now also wouldnt do it any justice as it looks like splash damage hasnt modified the ragdoll system, they pretty much look like the stiff bad looking ragdolls we had in doom3/quake4.
I want halflife2 ragdolls, by far the most awesome ragdolls atm.
all to late, we will get the “falling on the back” animation and that’s it.
and even if it’s not a reason to not buy the game for me, it will be for many others.
it looks poor and especially casual gaming websites will point it out as a negative thing, regardless of the reasons for its implications…
mark my words.
