Photoshop 7.0 Targa Issue/Resolution

For those that use photoshop extensively and have problems creating .tga files that have an alpha channel that can be used for blending with gtkradiant…here’s your resolution.

Download the following file and rename your Targa.8BI to Targa.old or something like that - in your: “C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop 7.0\Plug-Ins\File Formats” folder. Then just extract the Targa.8BI from the link posted above into the same folder. Here’s some gratuitous information on the background of this issue:

Versions of Adobe Photoshop prior to 7.0 saved the first alpha channel
in a file into the fourth channel when writing Targa files.
Photoshop 7.0 changed the application’s default behavior to save
transparency information instead of an alpha channel, resulting in
incompatibility with some existing workflows. In response to user
feedback, this plug-in restores the pre-Photoshop 7.0 behavior
of the Targa plug-in.

If you apply the lastest 7.01 patch the alpha channels will be stored correctly too.

I’m glad to read this. I had started to think I was to big of a Photoshop noob, since I could not get it to save the alpha/transparency.
