Phoenix's self revive utility?

(Alchimi) #1

I didn’t played the closed beta, so I never could try Phoenix out, but I’m wondering about the usage of his self revive.

Most players now learned to finish downed enemys, (at least to get the finish xp)
So of course the ressurection will be very useful on long range fights and medium ones if behind a cover. But for short range isn’t it going to be pretty much useless? (Which seems fair from a balance point of vue btw).

Also I was wondering how good his healing waves are? Assuming he is not going to be completely tweaked since the closed beta…

For closed beta veterans, what do you think of Phoenix over Sawbonez?

Well judging by what I’ve seen, and what I can infer from Aura and Sparks, it’s like this.

You wanna keep people alive? Sawbonez, best offensive healer, but Phoenix is the go to guy for reviving people as an offensive Medic.

He won’t be nearly as squishy as Sparks, and is actually a very durable player due to his self revive. Even if your team dies, you can still get back up and get back to reviving people, he’s like a mobile spawn becon. As long he doesn’t get gibbed or headshotted by Vasilli, he’ll keep the push going.

(capriRocket) #3

does he have defibs?

(watsyurdeal) #4

Yep, he does

I’ve always liked AoE based abilities in games. Let it be grenades for offense or healing or buff auras. There’s just something so satisfying fastly calculating and finding dat sweeeet spot where you maximize the effectiveness of your splash / pulse / aura / thingie. Definitely a buy for me when he gets added.

He’s one of my top 3 favorite mercenaries. His self-revive is amazing and you can get a good laugh out of reviving and killing the person who killed you. I don’t think his healing aura is all that powerful so for defending you want to use aura. LIke others have said, he’s a combat medic. Not good at defending.

(Gaspoline) #7

lol I guess nda doesn’t really matter at all anymore huh

(sinKrin) #8

I’m going to have a hard time not quoting Evil Ash when using that ability

(LifeupOmega) #9

I hope he’s viable against Sawbonez healing wise, his pulse seems to be on a decent cooldown and seems to work like Saw’s packs do. Also he gets some pretty good guns.

(watsyurdeal) #10

No, his pulse pales in comparison to Sawbonez’ packs. But the fact he can self revive means he’ll be an amazing Medic in comp because he can get aggro and still get back up to revive his buddies if needed, he just won’t be able to heal them. I imagine he’ll become the new standard along side Sawbonez.

The Medics seem to be well balanced with each other, each has it’s own specialties. But I can see Aura getting buffed again…honestly the healing she had wasn’t my personal issue, the healing station was just a bitch to destroy. It has about as much health as Proxy does, but no headshots…I feel like 60 health would have been fine and the healing station could have been left alone.

Yeah Phoenix is one of the mercs I’m waiting for and consider paying for (with ingame credits, not real money). What you guys are saying about him confirm me that he seems worth it.

Still have to give Sawbonez a try, thought.

Damn, another relatively squishy medic. Ah well, he’s the most appealing out of them all.
Anybody know what nationality stereotype he follows?

(DB Genome editor) #13

@extravagentBypass in his previous incarnation he was speaking some of his lines Spanish, not sure if he’s meant to be from Spain or Latin America though…

That is -if- he’s able to pull the Self-Revive quickly enough before getting gibbed, which most competitive players would most likely know about. : P

(watsyurdeal) #15

Considering the Nader complaints…I wouldn’t be sure.

He might get away with it.

(VincentRJaeger) #16

I might be overestimating the attention of comp players then : V

But yeah, he might.

(Alchimi) #17

Necroing this post since we now know fur sure that Phoenix is the next merc.
Discuss.

(Black) #18

Isn’t his self revive pretty much useless?
You are almost always going to get finished especially if you are phoenix so why does it take so long to revive and why can it be stopped?

His self-revive should be unstoppable as long as he’s not finished, especially if it has long cooldown.

(watsyurdeal) #19

Because then it’d be overpowered as hell, you’d have to kill a guy twice before he finally goes down.

That and he’d basically be like Rhino, 100 * 2, and all he has to do is survive another 60 seconds to get another self revive.

Exactly.

Make him a medic to be feared :).
