Phoenix's healing ability reimagined

(Peebs) #1

Whilst i love playing Phoenix, i can’t help but see a problem with his healing pulse, as do a lot of people. After you charge up your pulse and heal one teammate, usually another will come to you shortly after needing health also, and you can’t exactly help them whilst the ability is on cooldown, usually resulting in the death of that teammate soon after they run away from you displeased and on the brink of being turned into pulp. What i suggest instead of the pulse, is that the healing ability acts like a portable, less powerful healing station. so when you Q the AOE and the animation work the same but instead of charging the pulse and then releasing it, the Q will heal everyone in your ring until the meter counts all the way around. This way the healing is far more effective and if you don’t use it all up you can still save some for the one player who just missed out. Keeping everyone happy.

What does everyone think?
Do you believe it could work?

If you play as a Phoenix and you miss to heal half of the teammates in need, it’s your own fault, and theirs for not paying attention.
When i am half dead, and i see a wounded teammate and the Phoenix running towards him, i know what he is up to, that’s why i stack together to get my share of healing.

I’m not really fond of buffing Phoenix in any way - he seems well balanced right now. You can equip him with better weapons than any other medic and he has the self-revive ability. It’s obvious he has to be weaker in some departments.

Using the occasion - how does one change their forum avatar? I can’t find the option :frowning:

TBH that’s what his Q was when the game was in closed beta. It was called a Healing Aura and it was like auras healing station but it was on the go.

If you want more info on how it worked well here it is.

I think it would be better if phoenix’s heal used a charge system similar to redeye’s IR with the small activation cost included.
Using a full heal would still drain it completely but you could afford to do a couple smaller heals draining more energy to heal less for multiple groups or if your teammates take damage shortly after the first.
Most of the balancing would be in the recharge rate of the ability in place of a cooldown.

this is a great idea i usually play medics like phoenix and this has happened a lot to me

Honestly I feel like it should give a percentage instead of a flat amount.

No rework or buff is needed for phoenix, he’s really well-balanced and has a unique playstyle. Like resine said, it’s not the healing pulse’s fault, it’s either your fault or the teammates’ fault for not paying attention. It’s radius is large enough to heal many people, if they don’t see you charging it up or just walk away, they’re simply being ignorant, and the pulse is doing it’s job.

Sprinting while charging the pulse can help, or you can control the amount of healing, for example maybe a teammate is missing 40 health, you could then charge it for 1 second and give him that 40 health. Then you only need to wait around 6 seconds.

Also, how do you change your name? I don’t want to be bizzarerectangle lol.

I rather Phoenix’s Healing Aura remain unchanged. I like the burst heal it does to me giving me a huge advantage against anything short of Rhino in CQC-range.
