So since I’m not rich and I’ve only recently began playing Dirty Bomb (I started a bit after Sparks was released), I don’t have all the mercs. While now I do have 11 out of the 15 currently playable mercs (16 soon #stokerhype), I wanted to get Sparks or Kira next. But I started thinking “I’ve already made the mistake of buying Phantom with real money without knowing how to play him very well, what if I waste it on Kira or Sparks?” Since all 3 of the mentioned mercs are high-ish in skill (from what I’ve heard, Sparks is the most difficult merc to master. Phantom isn’t really actually, and Kira is about the middle), I want to buy someone I know I’m going to be able to work with. Then I thought of Phoenix. Since I die alot and people still somehow don’t know how to finish their kills, the self-revive would be useful. I’m more of a fan of being able to move around and heal people rather than move my healing station from what spot to another just to heal one stupid Proxy who keeps running into a battle she can’t win (which is why I prefer Sawbonez as my medic). But I also like being able to heal a wide array of teammates in a certain area, since I can’t do that to all of my teammates with only 3 medpacks. So I figured the healing pulse was a good median.
We all know the advantages of Sparks over the other medics, as well as the fact that she is the worst healer in any game ever.
And then there’s Kira. Her ammo station is… okay? But the orbital laser is kinda amazing. While she is probably only gonna be better than Stoker when it comes to EV destruction, her laser is really, really, REALLY good at killing people. So there’s her awesomeness.
So guys, what is your opinion? Phoenix, Sparks or Kira?
Phoenix, Sparks, or Kira?
They are all situational mercs so there can’t be a clear answer. Sparks and Kira require very good aim though, and are pretty squishy. Phoenix might be the best choice according to your post, but if you already have Sawbonez I’d go with Kira for some good variety. Arty is on rotation right now, if you like his weapons Kira has the same ones but is much faster though with less HP. Sparks might be hard to master, but even if you don’t have 16 years of Q3 railgun skillz you can still help as long as you sit in the back of the team, but from your post I gather that you’d rather be in the frontlines for which Sawbonez and Phoenix are the best.
Take sparks, not really that hard to master. Keep on movin use distance, till u get the headshot feeling. For the other part revive. Kira… not my cup of tea
(Again) Depends on your playstyle.
Sparks is the BEST for reviving dead teammates, don’t expect to use her REVIVR as an actual medic tool if your team knows how to stay alive though. Her packs are “Meh” but she’s a good merc overall. Buy her if you like to hang back and keep the team up and running, you can also be a huge annoyance to enemies if you can snipe well.
Phoenix is easy to use, good during firefights and around chokepoints where your team is close together. A full charge on an entire group really gives the team an upper hand. Buy him if you like to get involved in the action whilst boosting your team up every now and then.
Kira is a lighter alternative to other fire support mercs. She’s quick and has access to some really nice burst weapons. She can take out concentrations of enemies fairy easy and is also a viable EV buster. Buy her if you like keeping your enemies at medium range. Get good with the laser and you’ll be a force to be reckoned with.
Honestly, they really are situational as said in previous posts above me. They each play a VERY VERY different role from each other as Kira is in Fire Support, Sparks is a Medic sniper while Phoenix is more of a combat Medic and Phantom is a invisible killing machine Recon.
I think you should just wait until Stoker is released and buy him, trust me, you’ll have thoughts of “why did I not buy Stoker instead?!?” when you see people playing him.

@Xavien So hyped right now it feels like I just skulled 40 colas.
Basically yeah, all these mercs have different scenarios that they work well in. You have to play test them before you can make a fair judgement on them.

Or I guess you could not buy Stoker first since he’ll be either the next or next next free rotation so you could test him out.

Eh. I have some credits to spare. Might as well get Stoker.

@gg2ez I was gonna buy Phoenix since I’m close to 50k but guess I’ll save for Stoker.
You can also have a look at my thread.
It contains various info about almost every merc.
