Phoenix Is Far Outclassed By The Other Medics

(CCP115) #21

When healing, you can’t shoot or defend yourself. It’s similar to Fragger’s nades, so anyone who has played Fragger proficiently should get the hang of Phoenix’s heal pretty fast. Regardless, it’s one of the riskiest heals in the game, with long cooldown, and a long animation.

And his self-revive does seem gimmicky, due to the fact that there aren’t many situations where you’d be able to get away with it.

I’ll definitely buy Phoenix, hopefully they just don’t overnerf/buff him like Phantom.

If your whole team gets nailed in a single location, he can revive himself, revive others, release health pulse.

(XavienX) #23

One of these threads that judges something before anyone has even tried it.
Well the huge dertming factors will be

 1. How long does it take for the self revive to actually work?
 2. Is 60 seconds too long of a cooldown or just right?
 3. How long does his healing pulse take after use to recharge?

Really this is all stuff we won’t know till the day he comes out.
I like Phoenix because:

 • Crotzni, Kek-10, Hochfir[*]Revives & Healing Pulse; follow and protect me if you want to live

What will disappoint me is that if the pulse doesn’t insta-heal my team mates around me (particularly Rhino & Fragger). I really couldn’t care much about his zombie ability because most players finish their kills anyway so he’s just the mobile version of Aura who heals on a fixed position. Honestly, I think he should get a better SMG than Crotzni or Kek-10. Totally team complimentary unlike Redeye’s smoke that is good for the enemy vision and bad for the team.

Phoenix is for skilled players.

(LifeupOmega) #26

???

Kek-10 is considered the best SMG.
Crotzni is incredibly viable even post-nerf.
Hochfir is also a solid choice if you can dink people’s heads reliably.

How can we get better?

(Borganism) #27

I was really looking forward to Stoker, but a Kek-10 medic gets me happy too.

Playing Nader, I know just how many people forget about after death abilities and revives (in pub games anyway), this gonna be fun.

(TheOrangePhantome) #28

IKR @LifeupOmega the kek is the beat smg and the crotzni does a lot of dmg. But i prefer the crotzni.

(TheOrangePhantome) #29

@favoriteKnife Same. I rly wanted Stoker to get released cus 1st of all MOLOTOVS and the timik. And i luv the AK family and fire as well and i wanted another fire support merc with AR’s but ohhh well.

And about the after death abilities. People usually forget but i don’t and to be honest 50% of the time i trick the nader into blowing her self up just cus i can and the other 50% i just shoot her.

(Borganism) #30

Yep, thats how it goes most of the time @TheOrangePhantome but there are also times where the player gets distracted by incoming fire, an airstrike, they die at the same time, something shiny, because they don’t know any better, because they forget in the heat of the moment. People saying the self revive will be useless are wrong, you just need to be clever about using it. This is even mentioned in the role call vid.

I always try to finish a nader to save my team mates from stepping on her. Just like I clear mines and stickies. Doesn’t mean I don’t occasionally get caught out by her though.

(TheOrangePhantome) #31

@favoriteKnife Of course you have to be cleaver to use it same goes for the Martydom.

(IcySkyz) #32

Well I feel kind of stupid now… Normally I would have to play a merc for a couple days before coming to a decision on its advantages and weaknesses, but I guess some people are just able to do that by watching a 2 min trailer and not playing the merc…

(Alchimi) #33

Self revive will surely be completely useless solo against any player who has at least a normal brain. (And knows about the self revive, of course. Read the patch notes boys and girls!)
IMHO It will still be very useful in long distance engagement, medium ones when you’re behind a wall and your team is around distracting ennemy fire, etc…

I think Phoenix will turn out more or less balanced, like Red Eye, sorry for the people wanting every new merc to be so OP-gamechanger… I still laugh when I see people complaing that Red Eye, not being all-powerful, is therefore useless…

What I thought was funny was how many people thought the Grandeur was bad

Hard to use, sure, bad, not at all, 80 damage headshots are nothing to scoff at.

(tropicalDirector) #35

I just realised.

I now have another priority target to kill and finish with my phantom. So annoying.

It is very hard to use though. It really needs better sights. Hipfiring is incredibly inaccurate because of spread. ADS is incredibly inaccurate because it feels like it has side-to-side recoil (not sure if it really does) and the bullets don’t land where they feel like they should.

(Sorotia) #37

The biggest downsides I see on him are wasted heals…and least on pubs it’s very rare to have your whole team in a small area and the fact that you need to drop your weapon in order to charge a decent heal.

While playing Aura, Sparks, or Bonez you just drop your gun for a moment to drop a med pack/station.

Oh…and like I’ve said in other threads…I worry that players will use him as the posterboy for playing Rambo and completely ignore his team.

Oh, I agree that the weapon itself would be pretty great…if the sights weren’t awful on it. I put in a serious amount of time with the weapon and I just couldn’t get consistent with headshots and it was entirely due to the sights on the gun.

OK so it’s not only me…
I feel like I’ve almost never landed an headshot with it while ADSing. Like the whole visor seems to get in my vision. I love that gun and it’s concept but I find myself taking more often the Pdp than the grandeur. Plus it’s recoil is insane, which could be okay if ADS didn’t felt this bad… Hopefully the gun will get tweaked.
Is hipfiring with it even viable? I almost never try. Each time I do I die.
Did the grandeur felt like this in closed beta?
