Phoenix Healing Changes

(GottaBeGreg) #1

I mentioned this in another comment and it got a little ignored, so I asked some of the more experienced players I have seen around the servers who have played in tandem with/ as Phoenix and I got back a majority of positive responses, so I thought I would try out the reaction here.

The changes I am proposing are not to quantity of healing nor recharge time but rather how this healing interacts with other players. Two ideas have been discussed prior to now that I believe would be viable and they are as follows;

Radius of healing visible to Team-mates. This would allow players to see that you are charging your healing and for them to get within the radius if they need heals and for increased awareness of location of enemy Phoenix’s.
AND/OR
A louder audio cue to charging the pulse, so people will stop running away from a healing Phoenix when they are on low health and enemies can locate a healing Phoenix as he attempts his escape more easily. This would force a more team based Phoenix than a lone wolf Phoenix also and I think that is a positive. This audio cue could perhaps be a whirring noise or maybe a chattering, like the nanobots grinding together or something. Choosing what the noise should be is not my department, but all I know is that it must be distinctive and easily followable.

Anyways, please let me know what you think.

yup, both good ideas.

I’m voting for ‘AND’.

Cool, nice to hear. Thank you for the reply. B)

Few minor improvements would hurt

Edit: yep, a typo, I meant wouldn’t.

(GottaBeGreg) #5

Would hurt? I think you meant to write wouldn’t and typoed, but if not, how so?

The sound that plays at 1:58 sounds appropriate in my opinion.

Excuse that guy giving the commentary, it’s not exactly a well known game.

(GottaBeGreg) #7

Yeh, I could see that. Its very distinctive and no one would mistake it.

(Eox) #8

Extremely good QoL changes. It would be welcomed.

(GottaBeGreg) #9

Cool, its good to hear some support for these things. :*

I think both would be fair. It doesnt change the actual “balance” of the merc. So no OP/UP argument. I think perhaps the audio cue could be something spoken like “charging healing wave” or “get in the effing circle dips.”

I think the audio que would be better than showing the circle because people play with their ears first then their eyes (or so it should be). I know for myself Ill hear a Aura station go down and think “hey, healz.” Or ill hear the beep beep boop of someone planting C4 and think “hey, killz.” Phantom going into stealth yadda yadda, you get the point.

Overall 10/10 from an avid Phoenix user.

Cool, great to hear the feedback. Now all we need is to hear from someone on the dev team to see if it is reasonable to them too.

Just do both. When there is a lot of action and noise around (or people playing without headphones/listening to music) it would help players with the visual cues. Too many people on my team generally don’t even notice environment audio and die from obvious (to me) warning sounds.

(gg2ez) #13

Yes please. So hard to heal those crazy Proxies.

(GottaBeGreg) #14

Satanic Proxies just be doing their thing.

Im not saying to void the visual que. Just realize that people will more than likely still not even realize that. Such as Naders still getting martydom kills because people dont associate writhing Nader on the ground with she blows up shortly afterwards. Or the visual que of skyhammer grenades and an obvious (to me) bright red line showing the explosion path.

All Im saying is audio would be more of a consistent reminder than visual. Not to get rid of visual but to not get upset when it still doesnt work haha.

Hold up. People don’t associate a downed Nader with getting blown up? I can’t even remembered the last time I got Martyrdom’d. Only bad or distracted players get blown up by Martyrdom.

These are ideas I love, especially after having played Phoenix a while now. This would minimize the frustration of playing him, so I’m voting “AND” for these ideas.

You just answered your question and confirmed my hypothesis? I didnt say “getting blown up” check your quotation bbgg. Anywho, thanks for implicitly agreeing with me
