Pheonix or Kira

(Dysfnal) #1

I’m trying to decide between the two and which to buy, I have a solid hochfir Pheonix loadout from ReV, and none for Kira. I would be buying Kira for laughs bc she’s getting the katana (melee only M8). I enjoy playing both of them and I need to choose which to buy before the event ends

Might as well get Phoenix since you already have a good card for him.

(Dysfnal) #3

Okay thanks for the input

If you like playing support and enjoy being aggressive all the while, Phoenix is your pal. Kira can wreak havoc on some maps, but you need to be comfortable with burst or semi-auto weapons.

I main the stark on Stoker, but I’m not a big fan of the BR, I just don’t like it, Dreiss is okay

Phoenix is a great medic with lots of teamfight potential. He’s good in a pinch, self-heals reliably, can heal effectively under fire, and can self revive, so he isn’t at all dependent on other medics. A majority of his loadouts feature at least Extra Supplies or Potent Packs, both of which greatly benefit his healing ability. Phoenix is my favorite medic.

Kira has an ammo station and a salt laser. It has a long cooldown and is cumbersome to use without practice, but it’s very precise and immensely powerful in the right hands. She happens to be my least favorite Fire Support, though, since Stoker has more reliable area denial, Skyhammer strikes one-shot an EV and have massive collateral damage potential, and Arty has Skyhammer’s objective-smashing power with Kira’s precision.

I would definitely go with Phoenix since he is very effective and easy to learn, but I am probably biased, so you might want to wait for a Kira main to come and tell you why and how Kira is the best fire support in the game. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Also, I am supremely jealous that you have a Suspect Phoenix card. >.>

If you want to melee only, you might as well play as Phantom since his Refractive Armor already caters to the infamous melee-only mentality. Or you could do melee-only the right way and get RedEye’s G41 Chopper + Quick Slash + Try Hard loadout. With the inevitable foolish deaths that occur by bringing a knife to a gun fight, you can gain up to 140 health of pure unadulterated Beckhill-Aussie wrath.

Kira and Arty’s burst guns are also crazy accurate. The stark is pretty unbelievable, just peek from behind a box 3 times and he’s dead. Assuming you didn’t headshot. If you already own Arty, I would hold off on Kira, I find them pretty similar enough.

Phoenix is okay, I find tossing medpacks is easier than trying to get people to stay in your healing circle. Even when the players are good and know to stick with you, you can only heal people nearby, then you’re stuck on cooldown. Packs heal slower over time, but they’re so much easier to use, more flexible, leave them on the ground, and not stuck on cooldowns after one guy.

That said, I play Phoenix a lot, and as long as the opponents stream in one by one, I kill one after another and keep healing up repeatedly. He can get pretty stupidly strong. But arguably you can do that with any medic.

I think I’m getting Pheonix, but if there’s a katana loadout for Kira with quick slash my choice may change

(vdll) #10

I doubt they will ever pair katana with quick slash.

(Dysfnal) #11

But if they do…

Kira is made of glass and would be a terrible choice for going Melee-only. Phantoms with refractive armor and 110 health are still very easy to kill when they attack you with a katana. Kira would be no contest unless you pull off a surprise attack.

(Dysfnal) #13

@SzGamer227 what about melee proxy and sparks, I know their abilities complement the style, but still

(SzGamer227) #14

For Proxy: Shotgun > Knife

For Sparks: Self-heal is only useful if you manage to not die. Not dying with 80 HP is pretty damn hard when you’re not playing sniper medic like you should be.

Phantom is the only somewhat viable melee class, and even with refractive armor absorbing lots of damage before getting in range he’s still laughably easy to kill. If you want to have fun with melee only, you either have to use Phantom (who can actually manage melee kills in normal gameplay) or a loadout card with both Quick Slash and Chopper (RedEye has one with a Beckhill, and I think Aura might have one with a Cricket Bat (idk for sure though)).

Personally, I find ripping through enemies with RedEye’s G41 to be the most fun.

(Dysfnal) #15

The point of melee only isn’t to win though, it’s to take a break from gunplay and have some fun

(Naonna) #16

Kira’s better for melee, but less efficient in close-range in serious play. - Kira’s laser combined with high-speed melee skills can be ‘fun’ - just not efficient when you don’t use your gun.

Phoenix has a better chance overall of consistently killing enemies and keeping himself alive in close range. - occasionally, you might be able to melee someone. I dunno.

(Dysfnal) #17

I was talking about going melee only as Kira, not as Pheonix, also I bought Pheonix, and I realized the range of the pulse is lackluster

(Naonna) #18

If you’re close to teammates, I see no problem with Pheonix’s pulse. The only time it becomes an issue is when your deaf teammate is sprinting away from you while you’re mid-charge… awkwardly wall-jumping with your finger still in the ‘charge pulse’ button. … As for pure melee, then Kira. for teamwork and survivability and overall ‘good-ness’ … Phoenix.

(Dysfnal) #19

Kira would have been my go to “f with my teammates” merc, she’s next though
