Phantom

So i recently got a CR51 Shard Cobalt for Phantom. But it uses a knife… Is this viable? Yes / No?
Opinions?

It’s a nice loadout for a Phantom that isn’t a samurai since Crotzni is beast, so yes nice loadout and besides, the katana is more of a novelty than a weapon. It’s like this, “hey I got this really shiny silver sword that can cut through anything, but every time I cut something a big piece of the sword breaks off.” So instead I would rather keep the sword as something that just looks cool :P. But drilled works better overall at the current state Phantom is in.

A phantom without a katana actually may be put in a better mindset to play the merc. Staying out-of-earshot and focusing on gunplay can be a great boost in combat potential. - Perhaps less ‘fun’ but far more efficient.

What makes the C94 the best card isn’t the katana, melee is very situational, it’s the Undercover perk.

(SirMurder) #5

So why not use CR94 Instead then? @Dawnrazor

Because Kek-10.

@Dawnrazor ah good point

I use c94, which would be considered the melee card, for the exact reason @Dawnrazor pointed out. Undercover and Kek10. It would have been nice to have a few more gunplay focused cards for Phantom that also included Undercover.

Phantom without a knife is like Donald Trump without his trademark hairpiece. Damage potential would not change much for either, but something there would just feel wrong.

Jokes aside, my best Phantom cards are 3 golds and 1 X-Mas, none of them have the katana, hence I am stuck to using the bronze kek katana one w/ undercover, chopper, and some random thing. I could always use the cards and play phantom without the katana, but that was not reason I bought him and it would not be as fun to do those surprise stabs on Vasillis.

(Naonna) #10

vass now has 110 hp. chopper stab does 100 ish. no 1shots now. It’s like spy no longer can knife sniper to death and must use an amby. - Seems a bit awkward.

(CirclesofJerk) #11

I’ll be honest the katana seems to focus users too much on surprise assassinations instead of the other amazing aspect of it: the wide slashing angle. When you use left click it’s basically impossible to not hit someone in CQC because of it. This paired with 2-shotting most classes and circling around them with evasive moves makes it surprisingly effective. Even then some headshots with any SMG would kill faster, but it’s still a nice option when you need to mess up someone’s aim without having to worry about your own. Using a card with another knife essentially gives you a completely useless melee item compared to your SMG instead of another (albeit less viable) combat option.

Without the katana, you might as well play any other SMG merc, and you’ll probably get a better power alongside it :<

I’m in love with the BL61 Tornado Operative card for Phantom, too many people are seriously ignoring primaries and secondaries in favor of the Katana, that said, the one with Sneaky is nice as it makes Phantoms Cloak quieter.
that said Melee in general could have that mouse sensitivity effect removed as the Katana was nerfed properly with less frames and less range so no more bey-blading Phantoms.

Many changes to Phantom’s cloak were necessary but too many were applied, some that didn’t even make sense.

Ever since Phantom’s nerf, he still moves as if he had 120 health instead of 120, same goes for Vasilli and Thunder’s movement speed not matching their healthpool.

The buff to Vasilli’s health made no sense as a lot of other things could’ve been done, maybe making him as accurate in earlier stages in the alpha, even while moving or bring back instant kill head shots.

If it doesn’t have a katana it’s no good. Phantom’d fastest way to kill someone is the katana, with either one stab or two slashes. His gun is mostly for killing people who have already taken katana damage, or who you know you can’t maneuver close to. They said they’ll “rework” him. Hopefully that means more than 3 (realistically 1, C94) loadout cards are viable.

How many hours do you even have in DB…

Well, he’s partly right, a Katana less loadout is pretty terrible.

(KattiValk) #17

I’ve got a C51 Phantom in CW which is actually pretty viable because you can actually sneak up on people with it (cloak off ironically enough). Katana swinging is fun, but the only real utility for it that I find is either trolling a good player, or rolling over a packed Aura station because it hits multiple targets at the same time.

(JJMAJR) #18

Why play Phantom? Redeye has a spotting ability and a better stealth ability if you know what you’re doing. Phantom just has SMGs, and Redeye’s weapons are better than that.

(LifeupOmega) #19

Double Time is invaluable.

(Grave_Knight) #20

C51 is better. Double Time, Enigma, and Sneaky. Only thing that would be better is if it had Undercover instead of one of the other three, but for some reason all Undercover loadouts are also sword loadouts.
