Because that’s what they are marketing him as

“recruit Phantom, be a sneaky ghost, and play dirty”

From the role call, it implies he’s meant to be stealthy, and as such, not a tank.

I see what you mean. Maybe we are just playing Phantom wrong. I know for me, I cloak before enemies see me, flank, and uncloak in the middle of the team. It gets them to panic, and I kill a few, and my team kills the rest. But I may live from that if I was sneaky instead. I shall try that next time I play actually… I have never tried playing Phantom like the spy.

Like I said, if you play smart you don’t need the damage reduction.

If you want that, use Dead Ringer yo :smiley:

He’s not really Spy at all. More of a middle ground between Rhino (and his Ironskin) and Loki (and his Invisible). He can take the beating but he can’t necessarily keep on ticking if he doesn’t get his ass out of Dodge before the bullet rip him a new one (pretty sure that was a spoken word poem).

Right now few people have learned a non-Vassi counterplay for him. To them I say, watch for the shadow for the shadow is where the sword hides (and where your bullets should go).

So far I’ve had fun fighting other Phantoms as Phantom. It becomes a game of who can out manuever who (and hope the enemy’s allies don’t interrupt this duel). Would be amazing to see a game of nothing but Phantoms (all of them silly enough to only use their sword).
