Phantom Secondary Ability and General State of Balance Brainstorm

Phantom is classed as Recon…so the devs NEED to give him a recon ability. Right now people just use him as a solo rushing assault merc.

He’d be a lot more fun to use and interesting to defend against if he had TRUE reconnaissance ability.

Phantom really just feels like a joke character at this point. Sure, he’s supposed to be recon or something, but his cloak, even with the extra 20% ability upgrade, is still too short to use for real peeping. I just really want some smaller, movement-based changes:

-moving faster drains your cloak normally, but halting and walking make it drain substantially slower.
-you can spot Phantom from a mile away! Although he already gets less visible when he’s not moving, I wish he could turn wayyyyy more invisible when slowing down or standing still. Suppressing his cloak noise would help so much.

^ To counterbalance this I would create a delay in the decloak (i.e. you can’t just attack straight out of the cloak) so that people like me can’t just be idiots that get away with decloaking, ambushing two or three people with the katana, then recloaking again for that armor when the rest of the team comes in. OH GOD I’M TURNING PHANTOM INTO A CLOAK AND DAGGER SPY FROM TF2

It’d probably help if Phantom had some tool like Redeye’s goggles for recon but i think just being able to squat in a corner of the enemy’s spawn and watch movements before going for a medic pick would help so much more. It’s so awkward being caught with my pants down because i wasted my cloak trying to squeeze into a little corner.

Well as long as the armor stays, Phantom attacking while cloaked is going to feel super cheap.

Personally, I feel like the cloak should only reveal Phantom when he is running or taking damage, walking speed is so slow compared to everyone else it’ll be easy to lose him in the heat of the moment.
