How 'bout this:
Cloak and EMP is now removed and replaced with the ability is detach his soul from his body. While controlling his soul, which is 99% invisible (a very slight shimmer), he can tag people with left click and EMP with right. Using EMP or getting shot enough gets him catapulted back to his body. Souless body stays stationary, but will tell you if its damaged. Getting soul back to body is instant.
This allows you to safely scout ahead, making him more of a scout!

Good idea! it’s the same U3 engine anyway.
What do you mean his weapons just dont work with it? He’s a pretty solid character. Just as tough as a Sawbonez, slightly weaker than a Nader.

His weapons are close to mid range, especially with the melee focus they’re trying to give him (god knows why). If he had sniper rifles then this kind of ability would actually be really great. otherwise there’s no point for him to have a katana and an SMG if he’ll be sitting way back sending out ghosts every once and a while.

Well seeing as returning to his body is instant, I was thinking more of a hide around a corner in the front lines, and sending ghosts before him for scouting and sabotage before rushing in. Knowing where to shoot helps a lot.
His weapons would also limit him into a more CQC character, as theres too many sniper recon.
I main Phantom and feel hes fine. stronger in objective maps but weaker on execution maps. adding an EMP effect to phantom introduced a much needed soft counter to Mercs that rely heavily on deployables such as bush, aura, proxy, and best of all fletcher.
in execution things are more focused any half decent players with a good pair of headphones can easily flush out a phantom by ear and the visual effect EMP does to deployables can work against Phantom as well.
and this is good IMO because this will either A. make people realize Phantom is not for them or B. teach the player to adapt and learn not sprint out in the open and instead walk along walls, flank and pop out of stealth with the SMG and only use the Katana to cleave grouped up enemy’s, quick switch finisher or for using right click attacks around corners.
Somebody’s a fan of that Jackie Chan cartoon.

This thing could detach your soul, once you used it.
Yeah that’s why we never see him used in competitive.[/quote]
that’s an iffy thing to say atm, ranked is down and even before then phantom did not have the buffs that he did now. not to mention no one really played/plays rank so there is not enough players to get a sample size of Mercs played to form a tier list and to really get an opinion of the meta.
before phantom really only ran around and flanked not providing any benefit/synergy to the team. No ammo no healing and no spotting. and to bring him meant he would be taking the spot of a Merc who could. but now with his EMP I’m not sure where he sits.
I just think hes doing much better then compared to before.

Because ranked mode is how we see the top players compete and form the meta right

I think you missed out on the point I was making. Yes I fully agree ranked is where people can get a good look at how Merc I/O stands, but not enough people are playing it and not enough tournaments are happening to get a concise outlook on what the meta is right now and plus things recently changed with Phantom and It might be too soon to make an opinion.
I can only speculate on my experience with phantom and how it feels to play him.
but the actual win ratio he holds versus the sample size of ranked games/tournaments played, I mean actual statistical data without any personal bias I’m not sure anyone has that and a current one including the EMP changes to phantom+Total Ranked games played
Rank is not back up yet and if it does come back will people play it? not many did before
You can’t “speculate” when all the “experience” you have are public servers.
Also, ranked mode is just a glorified pub.
Sorry dude but I can tell you right now who’s used. I’m ignoring ranked because it’s a pub with a queue.
Thunder - Fragger - Nader
Sawbonez - Aura - Sparks - Phoenix
Fletcher - Bushwhacker (rarely)
Skyhammer - Arty - Stoker
Vas - Redeye
We almost never see the other 6 I’ve dropped outside of very niche situations, or even never.
Only time we’ve really seen Phantom played lately was in a PG game where the team got stomped into their spawn, and when fE or some top tier team knew they’d win and did it for fun.
Rhino is occasionally used, based on if Aura was banned or not which says a lot about his use, in small areas and is only used to hold a choke.
Aimee has probably been run but overall most teams will use Vas or a Redeye.
Proxy just isn’t used, she gets destroyed due to her low health and useless ability.
Kira is occasionally ran but is usually replaced with an Arty or another assault.
Most of these mercs have issues with mobility or health, and are generally outclassed by the other mercs in their field. Especially in this burst rifle meta running lower health mercs is dangerous. Phantom doesn’t do enough to warrant using over the other recons because his flaws become far more prominent when facing better players.
Dude, this isn’t League Of Legends, World Of Warcraft or Dark Souls.

I’ll agree to disagree we are only a few in a thread debating on a mercs viability. measures can’t be placed from one game and pubs there is not enough people who play this game competitively nor a viable platform to get statistics from.
I bet Splash Dizzle has some form of numbers on their end I wonder if we can get them to share.
