Phantom Refractive Armor Visibility Exploit

(RadicalMac) #1

Recently I set my AMD Evolved application to optimize DB for performance and it kept some settings on with other off etc and the game looks great still when not on ultra settings, and with these optimized settings, when Phantom is cloaked, he is no longer a high quality small transparent shadow, he instead becomes a glob of squares and 8-bit texture when it is activated, I’ve noticed this twice in one game, and it makes him easily spotted at medium range. (I’m not sure if the game was bugged for me that game but here are 2 screenshots of the settings so that someone can test it out themselves and give feedback.)

As well my PC specs ~
XFX AMD Radeon R9 270X Superclocked

AMD FX-4300 Quad-Core 3.8GHz

8GB RAM

Win 7 HP 64-bit

You should get a screenshot of the actual cloaked Phantom.

@JC916 Meh I just felt like sending people my settings so they can do it. Kinda hard to get a good screenshot of a phantom on the other team trying to kill you in quick speed.

“Meh”? I mean if it’s an exploit it could be pretty serious.

@JC916 Meh. I’m lazy.

@RadicalMac Lol, fair enough.

First of those settings are bad.
Both on a performance and visual basis. Keeping motionblur but diasbling everything else makes no sense at all. If you want better performance one frame interval should be on aswell, the input lag it might generate is minor at worst and on most configs not even there. Id also disable depth of field. Instead crank world detail up, enable dynamic shadows, post procession, static decals, high quality material, the rest of the lightning options, and everything else except motion blur. In that order as many as my system can handle.

Back to the topic at hand. Interesting this needs investigating, because I did have the impression that I get spotted more easily on min 10 servers.

I was simply assuming that higher skilled players are better at spotting (which is propably still true) but considering that potato configs are more common up top, if they directly help in spotting phantom it would be bad, I mean they will help no matter since spotting the difference is easier when the backround is less cluttered but if lower settings force some sort of inferiour fallback effect on top of that, it would be bad.

@Gi.Am These aren’t my usual settings I was testing the optimized settings that AMD Evolved gave me. (But I know what you’re talking about, I also have a guide on here for good framerate/gameplay. I keep one frame interval off since even max settings I get 200+FPS and I’m a competitive player [yes, I play CS:GO] so even those miliseconds of input lag can make a difference to me.)

Fair enough.

Makes me wonder tho the AMD Evolved autosettings work by crowdsourcing the settings (AFAIK) which would mean several players are running this kind of setup. Lets just keep my post for those poor souls that use them and stumble upon this tread.
